Wichita Oppos, I’m going to be in Wichita for a couple of days, driving out tomorrow from NM. What’s good in town? Interesting things to see, do and eat/drink.

I’ll be in town for a funeral and it will be mostly family stuff, but I’m sure they’ll be a few meals out and whatnot. I’d love to avoid chains and stuff like that. Legit breakfast is certainly a favorite of mine.

Places to eat: Monarch, The Anchor, Public at the Brickyard, Picasso’s Pizza, River City Brewing, Wichita Brewing Company, Dempsey’s, Dempsey’s Biscuit Co, Piatto.

Drinking: Central Standard, Norton’s, Hopping Gnome, Barleycorns.

Breakfast: Jimmy’s Egg (local chain diner), Homegrown, Egg Cetera, The Beacon (haven’t tried personally, but is the epitome of an old school greasy diner).

I’m sure the other Wichitoppos will have suggestions too, but these were my first thoughts.

I just happened to have a friend send me this as part of a running bit (I grew up in the Midwest, so to him I am from every city in KS, NE, MO, IA, MN, ND, SD, and IN and I get the “funny” posts about every one of them ). “ Look, I hate Kansas just as much as the next guy, but you have to admit that Wichita isn’t that bad compared to other major cities like Aleppo, Syria and South Aleppo, Syria.”

Actually, Wichita is a perfectly lovely place.

He made good ones. For breakfast tho Jimmy’s Egg is doing a limited menu still due to ‘rona, and I’m not sure the Beacon is open right now? Other options include Doo Dah Diner (huge portions, very American) and Homegrown (hipsterish ‘local ingredients, home made’ breakfast)

Other stops worth checking out if given the time: Cocoa Dolce, which has chocolates, gelato, and chocolate based drinks, Nifty Nut House, massive bulk nuts/candy store, and for food we also have a number of good Vietnamese options, Little Saigon’s B-4 being one of my favorite dishes in the whole city.

Done. Friday is the day of respects to the departed , family obligations and a wider family dinner that evening. If I’m out Friday night, it would be much later. That said, I’m open to late Friday night if it happens or Saturday. Saturday night will be more wide open for me.

The GNX would be damned awesome to see. I’m rocking my sister’s V6/manual S550 mustang for this family trip . It’s not special, but good in its own way. My Pajero stayed home and the Jag is at the dealership back in Abq getting the complementary 60k service and a few small warranty nibbles looked at before I’m on my own with a car built by blokes.

We did dinner at Piatto and then beers at Hopping Gnome and Norton’s. All were on point, and the steam engine parked on the bridge was so damned awesome.

Agreed, I live about 3 blocks north of there, and Norton’s is my girlfriend and I’s favorite hangout. Sounds like Jake is trying to coordinate with you about maybe doing something tomorrow.
