For my senior projects class, I’m tasked with designing and marketing a potential product, and I need to do a market survey. Since the product I proposed is automotive-based, I figured this’d be a great place to survey!
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
If you’d like to fill it out, it’s relatively short and should only take a couple of minutes. I appreciate the help!

annddd done.
how much longer until your degree buddy? I know you’ve been working at this a while. I’m about to finish mine this year......I figure you should be close too no?

I use my phone in my car with a bluetooth speaker because my radio doesn’t work.
![]() 09/30/2020 at 12:14 |

I see there are trick questions ... “ how often do you use your car in the phone” ...
Also, no R ickroll, only K-roll ?

Nice, congrats dude! After seven long years, this is my last seme ster! I’m looking forward to having the degree to start a genuinely unrestricted job search and start paying off loans (because they’re not going anywhere anytime soon).

yea, i’m about there too.
I start engineering, did 4 years, gave it up/ dropped out, and started a buisness degree.
This is going to be so weird after this semester ends for us....

Done.

Done.
I’d proofread your stuff in the future. At least one incorrect “ it’s, ” poor punctuation/capitalization, and some clunkily worded sentences.
The product sounds promising enough and would probably be pretty popular. I really just don’t want to have to choose between existing cupholders and random object storage (2nd phone, pens, etc) but another cupholder is also acceptable.

Huh, idk how my teamm ate let that one slip haha.
There is no Rick Roll here, only K-Roll.

I’d no idea you’d changed majors or dropped out previously. Life has one helluva twisty roadmap sometimes, and we all get to where we wanna go eventually. How’s the business degree been for ya?
And YEP! Couldn’t have picked a better time to graduate, it’s like 2008-09 all over again, except it’s our turn now.

oh i’m not even thinking of covid, just the change from constant school and work to just work.
And yea, I wasnt good at the later
math part of engineering. (even though i distinctly remember helping you at one point...that was so long ago...) some family stuff and shitty school counselors
lead to me dropping out, and doing the business
degree from home.

Filled it out. Hope you get the data you’re looking for. For an Oppo, I’d fill out a lot more so if you have an expanded survey I’ll certainly take a look.

From a marketing standpoint good job posting at lunchtime (at least on the East coast) on a website that people use to escape work.

I took the survey, but wish there were a few more options, such as where I keep my phone and a not applicable on how much I would pay for this particular apparatus. I see the utility and benefit of it, but personally would never pony up the money to buy one for myself. I just leave my phone on the passenger seat and leave the cup holders for cup holding. I’ll take one more for when I have a passenger since then I put my phone in the door pocket or console. My wife might dig something like this, however. Especially in her Jeep which has NO good places to leave the phone.

Ya know, I didn’t even think of that, I just woke up and had breakfast like an hour ag o....Awesome! And thanks much!
![]() 09/30/2020 at 12:26 |

Thanks! I had a lot of questions in mind for the survey, and my prof. recommended I keep it as short and simple as possible. This easily could’ve been as much as 20 questions if I didn’t get it reviewed by him.
![]() 09/30/2020 at 12:27 |
|
Here we go, question 1!
![]() 09/30/2020 at 12:27 |
|
Survey complete! It’s hard to say how many hours per day I clock, because on some days it’s 15 minutes and on other days it’s 4 hours... my average road time is wonky. Regardless, I like the idea of a phone case cup holder. Good luck on the project my friend!
![]() 09/30/2020 at 12:28 |
|
I had my teammate port it over from a Word doc to Google survey and didn’t have a look at it before I sent it out, so that’s my bad. I’m currently going through it now to check and correct any grammatical and punctuation errors I missed.
Thank you for filling it out and bringing this to my attention!
![]() 09/30/2020 at 12:30 |

It just inspires confidence to see a properly written sentence and helps you understand the request better. I have no experience with Google Forms so I don’t know how they work.
![]() 09/30/2020 at 12:32 |
|
Yeah.....I wish I could’ve expanded the survey beyond what it is....Unfortunately, my prof. was adama nt that I keep it as short and simple as possible for easier statistics and such. I suppose in this instance, whichever vehicle you most frequently drive or prefer to drive?
![]() 09/30/2020 at 12:32 |
|
Some of the questions are very confusing.
“How often do you use your phone in the car?”
Is that per-drive or in general? I almost always use it once, while stopped, for directions or just because I’m bored.
“How much do you drive per day?”
Weekends, I can drive 5-6 hours in a day. During the week, less than 1 hour thanks to the pandemic. Is this on average, for commuting, or what?
And of course the “where do you keep your phone” doesn’t include my two primary choices, my windshield-mounted wireless charger or the sleeve I keep attached to my glove compartment.
![]() 09/30/2020 at 12:33 |
|
I agree. This is the first time I’ve used Google Forms myself.
![]() 09/30/2020 at 12:33 |
|
I filled it out, but I mu st admit that I have no idea what your product idea is or why I would need it. It doesn’t tell me on the survey and your post above gives no clues.
![]() 09/30/2020 at 12:34 |
|
I filled it out for the GX, prior to March it was my primary vehicle. Now I have a rolling desk chair in the basement as my primary vehicle instead...
I just put the 2nd tank of gas in my wife’s car for the year.

Done. Cool pors che, I want one
![]() 09/30/2020 at 12:36 |

short and simple = skewed results because data isn’t granular enough to capture the edge cases. but, i get that it’s not your call.
![]() 09/30/2020 at 12:37 |

Good point, it’ll be one helluva changeover from school to work, but I think it’ll be a good change of pace.
You and me both, I think Calc 3 was my breaking point (or somewhere in Calc 2 or Matlab, maybe both? Can’t remember) . You definitely had a better handle of math and helped me out quite a few times (appreciated it btw!), I eventually found an engineering major that better suits my passions, but isn’t seemingly as illustrious and may be considered more of a compromise along the way, who can say. I’m just ready to see where it takes me.
Sounds like you had a rough time around it, maybe even more so than myself, and I hope the business major is going much better for ya! :)
![]() 09/30/2020 at 12:40 |
|
You bet! This sort of stuff is kinda fun. I hear you on having to whittle it down as much as possible. I guess on one or two of them I was just like, “ehhhhh I can’t chose any of these!” Side question. How do you like driving the 924 compared to the other Porsche you have there? I’ve driven some water cooled Carreras and loved them, but never an air cooled variant or 924.
![]() 09/30/2020 at 12:41 |
|
Yeah...I’m not too happy about the revisions I had to make to the survey myself. I wanted more detail and specifics in my questions, and the professor said otherwise. I didn’t do a good job of asking these questions with a “in general” mindset either, so that’s my bad. Apologies there.
![]() 09/30/2020 at 12:42 |
|
That’s what school is for. Judgement comes from experience and experience comes from mistakes.
![]() 09/30/2020 at 12:42 |
|
I had a feeling this would come up, apologies about that. I was limited by time and what and how much I could revise per my professor’s critiques. Thank you for filling it out though.
![]() 09/30/2020 at 12:43 |

Question... if I have more than one car and both are my primaries, which one do you want to know about? And do you want Pre-COVID or Post answers?
![]() 09/30/2020 at 12:44 |
|
Yep. If I have the time, I may try and recreate my original and more extensive survey. Part of my professor’s concern was in making it so specific and with numerous questions, trying to sort out the data would be too much of a chore, so I dialed things back, app a rently too far back.
![]() 09/30/2020 at 12:44 |
|
Thanks! And thanks! They’re fun cars and relatively easygoing to work on most of the time.

Nice Mr, mister.
![]() 09/30/2020 at 12:46 |
|
That’s a great question. When it comes to primary vehicles, I’d go with whichever is your most preferred/prioritized primary. And Post-COVID would be better, since it’s the way things are now.

Yeah haha, I did the best with what I had in the given amount of time to work with.
That is an interesting question! My 924 feels more “traditional sports car” than my 944 did. Both had identical interior setups ( spartan and cockpit-oriented ), the former with a noisier and rougher engine with boost coming on at about 3000rpm and paired with a dogleg gearbox feels wholeheartedly Porsche in the same vein as air cooled 911s. My 944 leaned more towards GT car in a sports car body. The suspension and brake setups are nearly identical, but the power steering in the 944 made it more livable where as the manual steering in the 924 is admittedly a chore, but a rewarding one. Both handle pretty much the same with near 50/50 weight distribution but the manual steering comes out on top here. Compared to our 911, it and the 924 are pretty darned close on power/weight I believe and both have manual steering. The 924 is the better everyday car from a practicality standpoint (even with turbo quirks and such), but the 911 wins on pure nostalgia as it’s been in my life since I was born. Compared to the 991.2 GT3 w/manual I drove a week or two ago...........It’s not even a fair fight, for the vintage cars.

Excellent input! Very cool that you have rides like this at your disposal, especially at such a young age. I’ll never forget the day I put some time in with a 6 speed 996 Turbo. When I got back and stepped out my first words were, “I get it now”. It was small, tight, solid, fast and precise. I’ve driven some 997 C2's and a couple Boxsters, but that 996 Turbo was something else. The fellow that owned it daily drove it year round in northeastern PA.
Next time I run into the local fellow with the 930 Turbo, I plan to take him up on his offer to go for a ride. That’s my childhood poster car. Eventually I’ll find an old air cooled Porsche on Turo or something and give it a whirl. I’ve wanted one since they were cheap and the prices began to shoot up by the time I was in a position to afford one.
I’ve got a soft spot for 924's and 928's, so perhaps I’ll find one of those in the garage if my 911 dreams never materialize. I’d also like the put a 944 Turbo through it’s paces, but I don’t know if it’s a car I’d spend the coin on.
If I never join the Porsche camp, I’ll resort to my alternate dream of an anti-911 and build a manual, V12 Jaguar XJ-S out of spite.

What type of beverage container do you usually have in your car?
Why isn’t there a “none” option? Is it totally expected to have at least one on every American cars? is there a federal law or something in the constitution making it a compulsory thing ?
I don’t have any kids and don’t ha ve a long commute, i don’t get why i would keep a drink container in my car, if i am thirsty then i will drink before or after driving ...

![]() 09/30/2020 at 14:19 |

Done, but the survey is going to be skewed.
“ How often do you use your phone in the car?” Is the answer per trip? E.g., if I average 2 phone calls in one trip, is that a 2? And if I am using my phone for texting, I would have a much different idea of what a holder would be than if I used it for handfree dialing or just as a map/Waze.
“What type of beverage container do you usually have in your car?” Can’t answer “none, ” which would be my answer to what “usually” is in my car.
“How much would you be willing to spend on this device?” Since $0 isn’t an option, I defaulted to $25-40. However, I wouldn’t actually buy it.

Jeeez, did Porsche use marshmallows for springs in the 924?
![]() 09/30/2020 at 14:59 |

That what a 924 looks like without swaybars.

I actually didn’t think about that, and two of the cars at my house haven’t got any cup holders! If I’m driving one of those cars, I typically stuff a water bottle or two behind my seat (2+2 seating, so no one’s sitting back there).

The class is called “Senior Projects” and in a nutshell, we’re to design, market, and pa tent (if possible or desired) a product/device/doodad/ect. I believe his thought process with my survey was that it was originally quite long and detailed and most people wouldn’t wanna spend more than a couple minutes to fill such a survey out. As such, I simplified (or dumbed it down), albeit a bit too much, from some of the comments. Live and learn moment.

Oh there’s always a bottle or two in every car. It’s just a given. I don’t use mine much. It’s just there to fulfill the “car bottle” requirement.
