Repro grills made out of ABS, seem to be almost nicer than the originals. Clearly have some bumper alignment issues but at this point there’s really nothing to do about it. Nobody is going to be looking close enough to see that the turn signals don’t fit quite right anyhow, they are pretty deep set in the grill. Also, not going to even bother using the double sided tape. We all know these are going to have to come off again.

Floor patch 90% completed, still needs finishing work and paint. Not looking too shabby.

Gonna try to complete the car after work this week and do another test spin. Wish me luck! Haven’t installed the rear floorpan guard but I should be good for now. Need to snag some longer bolts to sinch it into place. I was able to strech the braket into shape by using my floor jack to spread the ends apart.

Besides, they’ll be look at the rear  end because you will have passed them with that 400-horse V8.

You are very close to getting to drive the car for, what, the THIRD time in how many  years?

Yeah, the original grill inserts were nothing to write home about. Talking about alignment issues, t hat whole front end was floppy. I remember the first time I jacked my old TA. There was a special hook insert that was shaped like a J that clipped under the front fascia and rested against the front. You’d clip the jack into the J hook and start jacking only to find the damn front start flexing (and crinkling the paint).

First thing I did after seeing this (I forget why I was jacking the car) was to buy a smallish 1 1/2 ton roller jack and keep it in the trunk so I could pick my own jack points under the car and not use the bumper jack. After the first time my car was wrecked and needed a new front piece, I took the old piece home and left it around the garage. Damn thing folds and sags no matter what position you try to rest it in. I think I finally threw it away, as it had torn mounting points eventhough it really wasn’t damaged that bad in a frontal impact collision!

Car was in a small front collision( must have been a bollard or knee high wall or something. Replaced the bumper and bracket but at maxed out adjustment it didnt fit quite right. The outer “endura” bumper barely fit but fit fine, so I didn’t worry. Oh well. Ive been jacking under the front crossmember and rear differential. I dont trust the emergency jack nor the original inflatable spare at this point.

Third time in five years. Will be the first time hopefully without major incident.

Tbh unless you absolutely love wrenching(which I don’t) I would not recommend a restoration project

Good advice. I don’t know I dislike wrenching but I don’t know I like it either. Better not go off the deep end just yet.

Yeah for me it is just a means to an end. Important, but if this car doesn't absolutely charm the shit outta me I'm going to be in trouble.
