I wrote earlier today about Jeeps and ducks.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
This evening as I ran to grab some pizza, I spotted a beautiful black YJ. Amazingly rust-free frame, completely naked as God intended, just a gorgeous Jeep.
I pulled up alongside it to get a family photo...
And was about to drive off, when I noticed something.
A duck!
But more importantly, keys in the ignition.
So, I waited for a while , and finally started visiting all the shops in the strip mall. Finally got lucky and the bartender at some local dive found the owner, so we had a nice chat, and she kept her Jeep from driving off without her.

It must be having a purse or a coat pocket that makes the difference but I immediately know when my keys are not in my front right pants pocket. I don’t even have anything bulky . Just the Jeep key, house key, and a couple of work keys. That’s insane.

Nice YJ though!

I’ve done it myself more times than I care to think about. There’s something about not having a door that makes it easier for me to slip out without thinking about it.
And of course more dangerous when I do that.

Really? That’s crazy. Maybe I’ve just always been super paranoid about it. Even with my Ruckus back in college or even my lawnmower now I never left the key in . Now that I say it I’m going to end up leaving my keys in the ignition this week haha.

Definitely tempting fate.

Completely unrelated to keys... what front bumper do you have?

Oof, it’s been years. I’ll have to go digging.

Rusty’s.

Without the pre-runner. I intended to add it but got confused during the ordering process. C’est la vie.

I know you jeep people have good rearward visibility with the top off but not having any side mirrors still seems like a dubious choice.

Yeah, I’m definitely not a fan of that. I get nervous driving on the interstate without a passenger-side mirror for a couple of months each year while the soft doors are on.

Reminds me of on e time I r ecognized a friend’s empty car (Ford Festiva) in a parking lot and noticed that her headlights were on... and looking kinda dim. I walked over and reached through t he open window to turn them off, and discovered her keys still in the ignition. So I did her a favor! I stole her car.
It still had enough juice to start the engine, so I d
rove it around
the parking lot a few times and waited until I saw her exit the building and walk
towards
where her car used to be
. Then drove up and blew the horn. XD
Ah,
good times.

I really should have asked her if I could take a spin around the lot. I’ve never even sat in a YJ.

I’ve driven one, briefly. Took a coworker’s YJ around the block a few years ago . This was well before I ever developed an interest in Jeeps, so I couldn’t tell ya how it compares to a TJ. M y main takeaway at the time was how impressed I was by its tight turning radius . I had never driven anything that turned on a dime like that before.

I’ve left my key in the scooter a few times too. It is really easy without a door!

That was my take-away when I drove a friend’s YJ down the block once.

Back in high school my XJ keys worked on my buddy’s YJ but his didn’t work on mine. I was always moving his Jeep. Sometimes to another parking lot but mostly just turning it around or moving one spot over to see if he would notice.
