Well your Mondeo as pictured is nearly identical to the Fusion we got besides different powertrains.
Every time I see a picture of a two door Fiesta I think of what could have been.

Almost identical though NA ge t a saloon, the E.U. ge ts the saloon, liftback and estate.
The 3 door Fiesta is nice, but it’s too low for me to get in and out with any composure.

Oh wait, that Mondeo is a lift back! Why didn’t we get those? It doesn’t look any different so no one will have to know you’re a poor with a hatchback!

I never got so many compliments while cleaning it from everyone from young to old, male and female. They all remarked what a great looking car it was and the colour.

Yep,
so no one will have to know you’re a poor with a hatchback!
Lol, so funny. The liftback is by far the most wanted and bought for it’s practicality, usability.
Of the cars on Autotrader U.K.
78 are saloons,
713 are liftbacks and
348 are estates.
saloon.
liftback
This’ll give you another laugh then.
a 124 bhp, 1.0 litre Ecoboost engine.

Strange that the U.S. doesn’t get the Fiesta or Focus, yet gives the Fiesta and Focus two spec body styles (normal and ‘active’) (as well as 3 and 5 door Fiesta and 5 and estate Focus) . I know it’s just a front bumper thing with most, but still, why!?
Style, Titanium
ST-Line
ST
Vignale
Active

Mazda once tried to sell their lift back 6 sedan along with the regular sedan and they sold 95 % sedans with a few liftbacks or wagons thrown in there. It is very clear what consumers think about hatchbacks here.
Also, why does the sedan have a hump in the trunk floor that the lift back doesn’t have?
In such a large car that is not a power train that I would want. Seems like a pretty terrible power to weight ratio there.

But did they advertise the liftback at all? I don’t remember ever hearing or seeing about it until 10 year after they stopped being made. It’s like they offered it but didn’t really want to sell it

Those are lovely! I will always be upset that the US never got the true 2nd gen F ocus. I’m also shocked that the Focus Activ (especially in Estate form) isn’t being attempted to be sold here in the states.

Same here. I don’t think they ever bothered to tell anyone about it. Same problem as befell the Hyundai Elantra coupe and Buick Regal TourX.
Come to think of it, took me a while to figure out they even made a wagon. My brother had a 6 sedan of that gen and it was great. I think it would have been 10x better with a liftback.

That Mazda did quite well here.
About the hump in the boot floor, I have no idea. I’ve noticed it in the hybrids but this car isn’t a hybrid!?
Not really. The 123bhp 1.0 EcoBoost is the same as my old Superb Mk2 1.4TSi estate and Superb Mk3 1.4TSi liftback. and they never wanted for power in the city or on the motorway.

The Focus Mk2 was a nice car and the later facelifted, aka Mk2 .5 had a nice look.
Mk2.
Mk2.5
If you couldn’t afford the 301bhp, 2.5 RS, there was always the 221bhp, 2.5 ST.
