I normally don’t park here, I save the spot for customers. But right now I’m tr ying to air out my car, I moved some diesel jerry cans and now it smells like diesel. Parked close to the door so I can close my windows if it rains again.

It’s nice being able to see your car from your desk.

Of course now when anyone comes within a foot of your car you will stop whatever you’re doing and be ready to pounce.

Mainly because the windows are opened, but I street park at home. People being near my car is a fact of life.

Speaking of things that stink...

The other night Mrs. BaconSandwich smelled something in the garage.  I had smelled it the night before, but couldn’t put my finger on it.  And it was definitely stronger on day 2.  She mentioned paint thinner.  I started rummaging around, and sure enough, my jug of paint thinner had somehow sprung a leak.  It was sitting on some plastic shelves (thankfully on the bottom shelf) and managed to fill several pockets full of paint thinner - maybe 2 cups worth in total.  I managed to get it mostly cleaned up, but now it still stinks of paint thinner.

That tree in the pot... is that an avocado tree?

I had a few big ones at work, but they died.  They didn’t get watered after our local office closed (supposedly temporarily) during the pandemic.

Is your VW coded to closer the windows n the key fob?

I thought North American VAG cars had it deactivated.

It’s a feature I use on the Skoda, mostly when cleaning the car so I can clean the top of the glass.

A couple minutes with VCDS and I could hack that thing to let you operate the windows using the remote for keyless entry.

Just sayin’.

Also, thumbs up on the diesel dub.

yep, it’s deactivated on North American cars.

Couple minutes with VCDS or OBDEleven fixes that.

True. I’ve probably used this feature about 20+ times more than I’ve used the car’s umbrellas. Lol.

my turbodiesel.com did a tutorial on what to look at and do.

I’ve also got an ancient laptop with DOS and a serial port so I can run an old program called VDS Pro.

It allows me to hack Mk4 and B5 era VWs to enable the remote window function among other things.

Here in the U.S., on Golfs and wagons/estates, you have to press the ‘trunk release’ button on the remote or the switch on the driver’s door EVERY time you want to open the hatch. Whereas in Europe, they’re coded to allow the hatch to open as many times as you want so long as you’ve sent the signal to unlock all doors.

I’ve figured out which bits to flip at what addresses for most cars of that era to make that work. I also figured out how to modify the driver’s window “master switch” that controls all 4 windows so that it sends the signal to the rear windows to operate auto up and down like the fronts do from the factory. It also required flipping a couple bits in the rear window motors themselves using VDS Pro.

I like how hackable VAG products are. It’s pretty fun.

My Skoda will allow me to open the boot with the key fob without unlocking the car and when I close the boot it’ll relock itself.

I keep meaning the get my rear lights to come on when the DRLs are on and not just when the auto or manual headlights are turned on.

One curious fact I found with the Ford Ecosport is you can release the tailgate latch with the key fob on some cars but the button is left blank on lower spec cars, but you can make a lower spec car open the tailgate latch with the key fob, by opening the key fob itself, and where there is an empty space behind the button , cut a rubber (eraser for the Americans) the size (slightly smaller) to fit the void and and close up the key fob and it’ll now the tailgate latch will release when the button is pressed.

I'm glad you specified what a rubber was.  I don’t think what most Americans think of as a rubber would have worked all that well.. lol

Lol. Ye’, it’s one of those words that gets mixed with something else elsewhere.

Like flip-flops in the U.K. are called thongs in Australia.

Where as a thong in the U.K. is something else.
