Stevie Ray Vaughn: Willie the Wimp
The Beatles: Norwegian Wood
And number one with a fuggin’ bullet...
Steve Miller: Abracadabra
Unrelated picture of my friend’s new Taco. Dig that blue!

Goodnight Kiss by Dream Theater.
Most of the album Endgame by Rise Against.
Now I Know by July Talk.
That is such a good blue.

Last time I did Toyota for the auto show we got a TRD Tundra in that color. We called it Papa Smurf’s truck the whole show haha.

“ Somebody told me - the killers”
It’s amazing how the worst song in an album ends up being the one most played on the radio.

The
End of the
Innocence
by Don Henley
Really, I have enough hatred for that tune to encompass all three answers for most people.
(That and I can’t really think of anything else, although I’m sure if I looked through Phil Collins’ later work I’d come up with something. H e, Henley, and Sti ng all seemed to take a nose dive into Muzak-inspired music around the same time.)

Ha, I love Abracadabra :) “Just when I think I’m gonna get away...” And I love that blue truck....Toyota’s best current paint color.

Buffalo Bill - The Beatles

Invisible Kid - Metallica (I actually kinda like the St Anger album but man that song hurts me)

Too many to list lol and yes voodoo blue is lovely. Same as my taco actually. I’m curious where did he find that TRD grill emblem?

I worked in a supermarket in high school, the first one was one of 5 songs looped continuously from November 1st to whenever the company remembered to switch back to regular programming sometime in late December/early January. Often gave serious thought to just jamming a pen into each ear.
It played 24/7, but, fortunately, one of the overnight stock guys eventually figured out how to jimmy the lock on the door to the Muzak equipment room and disconnect it after hours.

Tears in Heaven - Clapton

U2 Songs of Innocence. The whole album should just be doused in flames and then launched into the sun.

Metallica...the whole St. Anger album
Last Dance with Mary Jane
I would have chosen Heart Like a Wheel over Abracadabra “I’m on a roll” line is like nails on a chalkboard

It’s catchy and you can dance to it. 7/10 :)

Mockingbird — James Taylor
Magic Bus — The Who
Rikki Don’t L ose that Number -- hate may be too strong a word here, but closest thing to bad Steely Dan I can think of.

Good point about many artists going downhill, most peak early—the Eagles went through the cycle pretty quickly, self titled album is magic, by Hotel California mixed bag, a few years later we got “The Disco Strangler"

Sympathy for the devil’s one of my favorites. Angie, on the other hand...
![]() 09/24/2020 at 01:29 |

Good choices. Somebody Told Me is easily their worst song and Uprising isn’t great.
![]() 09/24/2020 at 01:30 |

That is legit so weird. I get it if it’s their most basic song, or their most generic. But it’s often their worst

I actually like the sound of that song but I can’t for the life of me understand the meaning of the lyrics. Is it just nonsense?
![]() 09/24/2020 at 01:53 |

I know someone that St Anger is their favorite metallica album. They are the only reason why I dont hate that album. Ive given it enough listens that I appreciate it a bit, terrible snare drum and all. Its just so different from the rest of their albums. Its so bad that its good sometimes. But yeah I still picked a song from that album that I cant stand. Theres random moments of each song that I genuinely like but overall its annoying if I listen to it for too long. I think if each song was about 3 minutes, it would be a pretty good album.

“Mamacita,” OutKast
“Raise Your Voice,” Bad Religion
And this is almost cheating since it’s (allegedly) intentionally bad, but “Transformer Man,” Neil Young
![]() 09/24/2020 at 04:07 |
|
Neil Young’s version of Blowing in the Wind;
My World - Guns & Roses
Money For Nothing - Dire Straits.
Has to be said though...I come across way way way more misses than hits these days in the new release stakes. I’ve been picking up a few new release CDs recently from a whole host of bands and only a couple have really reached out to me (thankyou Shooglenifty) though only one disappointed me (sorry Birds of Tokyo)

My theory is that the v ast, vast majority of great music is composed by people aged between 18 and 30 (ish). And usually within th eir first 1 -3 albums. Before fame and routine kick in.

I don’t hate St. Anger. I honestly like it a little more than their most recent album Hardwired...To self destruct or whatever it’s called. I think the issue with it is it’s a Metallica album. If St. Anger was from a different band, or even an up and coming band, it would be a good album.

Man, the St. Anger album was the very first thing that popped in my mind. What a fucking atrocious dumpster fire of an album, from ANYONE, let alone Metallica.
![]() 09/24/2020 at 08:07 |

That sounds right to me, although I might amend it to say the first 5 albums . Look at U2's first 5 albums, I’ve listened to all of them end-to-end a hundred times. Boy is an amazing debut, October is relatively weak, but WAR, Live at Red Rocks, and the Unforgettable Fire are all gems. Then came the Joshua Tree and I haven’t bought a U2 album since, that was when they went from being played on WHFS (alternative station) to DC-101 (classic rock).

I Don’t really know those songs well. A favorite song of mine is by the red hot chili peppers called C abró n . The lyrics are kind of rude, but it’s a beautiful song. And actually, even given the lyrics, it’s got a pretty upbeat message. It basically says hey, if you want to be a f******* you can, but why do that when we could just have a party and talk about beautiful things instead.
How is school going?

Sting-Fields of Gold (maybe because it was overplayed at the time, I just can’t stand it)
Clapton-Layla Unplugged (this song needs to be electric)
No Doubt-Hella Good (what an awful, awful song)
![]() 09/24/2020 at 08:43 |

Not bad but overplayed to the point I can’t listen to it anymore and now hate it.
![]() 09/24/2020 at 08:48 |

I don’t know if this is Anecdotal or s trend but it seems like an artists second single or lead song off their second album gets a disproportionate number of radio plays. Like 21 pilots, Tear in my heart never played, stressed out , 1/2 of their radio plays
![]() 09/24/2020 at 08:54 |

U2 is a good example. The four members were born in 1960 and 1961. Is there anything from the 90s and beyond that is truly good? In my opini on: Not really. Lots of decent music, but decent is boring.
Many (most?) musicians lose that spark when they age.
![]() 09/24/2020 at 09:09 |

G etting fat, happy, and comfortable makes it hard to stay hungry and keep pushing. Especially when you’re comfortably ensconced in whatever musical schtick you’ve developed for yourself and can keep pumping out “meh” albums that will generate tours and cash. I’m not even mad about it though, I’m jealous.

Yeah, “Beautiful Day” was cool the first time I heard it and then it suddenly occurred to me that I was going to be hearing this song in commercials FOREVER.

Last kiss must be the only pearl jam song I like. I had them shoved down my throat too much and can’t stand vedder’s voice anymore. Like nails on a chalkboard.
It took a long time to appreciate hero of war. I don’t love it, but I’m glad it exists.
![]() 09/24/2020 at 09:49 |

Its not a bad song, it’s a shitty zeppelin song. Out it up against Rock and Roll, or How many more times, and it’s bizarre to me
![]() 09/24/2020 at 09:51 |
|
I hate the original, and pearl jams version is just a straight cover of it, nothing different or added.
I agree with what you're saying on Hero of War. The idea is good, the message they were going for is right, I just think it's ham fisted and botched. Like "defund the police" meaning "give more money to social services", right message but bad delivery.
![]() 09/24/2020 at 09:53 |
|
I get that, but I just hate the song. It epitomizes Claptons transition from rock to elevator music.
![]() 09/24/2020 at 09:56 |
|
It’s just subtle enough (I don't mean that it's actually subtle) that the average listener quite gets it on their first or even second listen. So I'd probably put it one step below ham fisted and botched. But yeah, I'm otherwise with you.
![]() 09/24/2020 at 10:21 |

See that's not fair! Bands aren't supposed to just fit a mold and do that forever. They are artists after all. It's the same thing that people hate brigade other bands for, for trying something different. But anyways I absolutely loved reading the YouTube comments on St anger. This inspired me to watch that video again. I just love all of the PING PANG PING PANG comments, it just so accurately describes that stupid snare drum.

It’s a double edged sword
“I don’t like it, it’s no Reigning Blood ”
“I don’t like it, sounds exactly like All Hope is Gone ”
We’re lucky Metallica even came together to make it. We almost never saw them as a band around that time.

We’re hybrid with 6th grade now, next week 7th, and the following week 8th. I’m taking them straight into the shop to start building.
I’m really happy to see the kids. I’m really enjoying having them build things ... but as I was spraying down my porous wooden workbenches with dilluted soap and water, I couldn’t help but think, “We are watching such a tight rope.”

I am teaching math classes on Zoom and feeling more effective and more connected to and more focused on my students than I ever have. Then again, it’s math. Other subjects, maybe not so much. I don’t think we’ll be back in the classroom before January, earliest. Then again, this is a blue state...
A good friend of mine said he expects that if Joe Biden is elected, then the COVID will magically go away. I’m thinking, Great: a two-fer!
![]() 09/24/2020 at 19:21 |

I’m definitely less effective this way, but I’m doing the best I can to salvage a good experience for them. I have new CAD desktops, and they will probably not get used much at all this year. Time has a lot to do with it. My class is only a half an hour long, and we basically get 20 minutes of work done ... maybe 25 if we’re really kicking ass. Call it 45 minutes of actual shop time a week per kid. I’m cutting things down to their bone in the shop, and TinkerCAD on the web is a nice tool and all, but it can’t do almost any of what we would do in school on actual AutoCAD.
I have a friend who thinks it will go away after the election, no matter who wins.
