Kinja'd!!!

I procured a set of unused Cooper Discoverer AT3s for the low low price of FREE. They’re about 0.5" too tall (WJs can take a 30" inch tire with no lift, these are 30.5" 245/75/16), but I can stomach a bit of rubbing if it means free tires.

Also got the new cam sensor in. With that, there are absolutely no ECU codes and this thing will pass state inspection with flying colors. I have an appointment on friday to register it.

All this thing needs now are just a few random niggles like a headlight restoration, treating the faded cladding, and for me to replace the blown dash tweeters.

Oh, and also one of the lug nuts is completely rounded and preventing me from changing the last tire but thanks to the magic of denial I’m pretending that’s not the massive problem it really is.

I had an Oppo fan (but not a contributor, just someone who’s been watching me struggle) reach out and offer to sell me an Overland WJ. I have to admit, it’s tempting, very clean, nice setup, but also much more than I’d planned on spending.

And of course an auto. But nice.

You will probably have to settle for an auto at some point. Just keep in mind that it'll take miles off the TJ so it gets less beat up, and you'll appreciate it more when you do drive it.

It’s an amusing thought that I’d have a Grand Cherokee with lockers, and a Rubicon without (long story).

Ugh. Sounds like you need a set of these.

Unless the lug nut is bigger than 19mm, in which case that set won’t help you.

I don’t think an extractor will help. It’s so stuck that before it stripped, the breaker bar was actually rotating the wheel while it was fully on the ground.

I really liked the WJ, but I drove them new so its hard to say how they are holding up.  I felt like their comfort level off-road was high.

It seems unnatural to be comfortable off-road. Or to use an automatic; I dearly love a manual when crawling down a hill, but in fairness I haven’t tried an auto off-road.

YIKES! That’s pretty seriously seized. Soak it in PBlaster and hit it with an impact wrench maybe (with an extractor socket of course) . I would say put a nut splitter on it but you can’t because of the way the wheel is built. Problem is  an impact might just twist the stud off. Maybe soak it and spend some time tapping on it with a hammer to break things loose, then use an extractor.

Oppo has fans?

It’s already had two PBlaster baths. It’s not gonna come out via conventional means. I   think I’ll just have to drill it out and replace the stud. My mom’s husband had to do the exact same thing with his Jeep so he’s gonna come over at some point this week and help me.

You can have those chunky tires, I prefer creamy myself.

The problem with breaker bars, between the slop in the  Socket  and swivel,    is that the force being applied risks not being perpendicular to the stud axis. Thus any flex in the socket can be counter productive. Also an impact uses the mass of the wheel, whereas a breaker at will transmit that torque

I’ll bet this guy with a hefty impact wrench would either get the nut loose or twist off the stud.  Either of which would be perfectly acceptable in this circumstance.

I’ve also tried an impact, before the breaker bar.
