This bright purple automatic Mustang is pretty well summed up by the pinstripe and letters spelling out “butterfly” emblazoned on the side. I’m sure the car sums up its driver pretty well too. Texas plate is a little unexpected though.

Kinja'd!!!

Still, this has got to be one of the best non-Cobra SN95 Mustangs I’ve seen in a while so someone clearly loves the car. Doesn’t love it enough to get rid of those awful chrome windshield wipers though. Ick.

Kinja'd!!!

Just a short distance away was this slightly delusional Mazda3. The bright yellow color was very nice but it isn’t OEM yet it also didn’t look like a wrap. Must have been a fairly high quality respray. It was a stick too.

Kinja'd!!!

Mmmmmmm, an Allroad.

Kinja'd!!!

My first new Defender spot. I have to say, that’s a very good looking vehicle. It isn’t huge either. It’s just a purposeful and well proportioned machine that maybe 10% of owners will actually use as intended.

Moving on to the not-student owned vehicles, we have a car most students would not be caught dead in.

Kinja'd!!!

Was the hideous gold grille on this old Fleetwood factory?

Kinja'd!!!

Standard issue Zoidbait.

Kinja'd!!!

Ah yes, the ellusive Cadillac ELR. Underneath, it’s a Chevy Volt. Inside, it’s a Chevy Volt missing half its doors. Yeah, I wouldn’t buy one either for how much they wanted for them.

Kinja'd!!!

Wanna bet these are owned by the same person? Or is it just a Camaro and camo wrap loving couple? You decide!

Kinja'd!!!

Parking level 100 boss.

I did spy a beautifully restored classic Mini whisking its way downtown but I was too late with the camera. Too bad, as it was the only real old car I spotted yesterday.

Kinja'd!!!

So in leu of a Mini you’ll have to settle for another, different corner of Peachtree and Peachtree that I added to my collection. Double points for double signage.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

The abandoned Atlanta Constitution Building has been a blight on 5 Points for decades. It was only used for 6 years after its opening in 1947 despite being extremely expensive to construct after a corporate merger claimed the newspaper that built it. At this point, the structure is so far gone it needs to be demolished. I hate to see this city’s irreverence towards its history claim yet another historic structure but this particular building is just plain dangerous.

So, Oppo, which vehicle would you drive home in today? The deed to the abandoned Atlanta Constitution would also be an acceptable prize for a week well spent but it doesn’t seem all that appealing to me. Since I don’t hate myself enough to take the Allroad I’d totally rock that Mazda3 sans big wang.

I saw an ELR the other day and also had to snap a pic. I think that’s my choice. Yeah, its a dumb volt, but there’s something about “cadillac electric vehicle” that makes sense to me. And honestly the whole plug-in hybrid solution is a great sweet spot imho for where the world is at right now regarding electric vehicles.

I also love the new Defender though. It’s a close second, though i’d be afraid to actually own a land rover product.

If GM had marketed it and charged a more reasonable price then it could have been a hit. It was a stylish plug in hybrid from when most were still associated with Prius level uncoolness. I like them. . . from a distance.

Same with the Defender actually but it’s a bit much for me as I’d also never take it offroad.

Yeah, it makes me realize how shallow I am when I think “I wouldn’t off road the defender either, but it just looks so cool!”

Love the interior on the defender as well. There’s something very pleasing about the utilitarian nature of the vehicle, even when that nature is directly contradicted by the vehicles price.

Thats not you being shallow. That’s you being realistic. A shallow person would claim to need it for one reason or another.

I like it but pretending I have any use for it is absurd.

Boss at my college job had a purple Mustang. Fellow student employee asked me to kill him if he ever had the desire to own one. I rode in it once, but it left no impression on me.

Yeah I don't know. They aren't always the most remarkable things. Not sure if this one was a V8 but it is just a cushy cruiser in this case.

That actually is an OEM color. Canary Yellow. Only available for the 04 and 05 model years .

Woah, I never knew that existed. Must be pretty rare as I don't remember ever seeing one in that color.

If I weren't on my phone if post a picture of Ugg boots and say you're insulting the footwear by comparison but sadly I can't do that.

I'd totally rock an ELR. They look gorgeous, and I could care less if they have Volt underpinnings. Everyone I have ever met who owned a Volt, loved it. Sign me up for a more stylish version of it.

I like the ELR too except for the fact that it cost twice as much as a Volt. I love the Volt and the ELR is arguably better looking with a much nicer interior but for HOW MUCH MORE?

The plate on the Mazda3 definitely means it’s still registered to the parents & probably purchased new or certified used back in the day (2004 car with a 2006-2007 plate). That kid definitely did something to it.

I didn’t even notice that. Our resident plate expert strikes again!

Though the parents must have had good taste to buy a bright yellow 3 with a stick. The kid must have slightly worse taste to stick that wing on it. Those aren’t even aftermarket rims like most people’s first step would be. Though I’m not hating that taillight tint with the yellow.

I like the yellow Protege5 cars, too.

Two new yellows I really like: Sunbright Yellow for the Kia Seltos & the Kurkuma Yellow for the 2018 Atlas and the 2019 Arteon. I’ve enjoyed my Alltrack so much that I’d love to score a Kurkuma Yellow  Arteon SEL Premium in the future (that is, if I don’t go Tacoma Limited/Frontier Platinum route).

It seems like the Protege5s were bought in a higher percentage of yellow to other colors of any car I can think of. It just suits the car so well.

I’ve only seen the Seltos in yellow once but it was glorious. Such a great color.

The golden yellow on the Arteon and Atlas is okay but not quite my style.

Haha, you’re already  thinking about ditching the Alltrack?

Yeah, they definitely over-reached on the sticker price by a lot. Also, as muc h as I love coupes, not having 4-doors these days hamstrung it even more.

No! The big blue child is staying for at least another three years, if not longer. I drive so much I already feel like I’ve had it for a year, though.

And really that back seat isn't usable with that sloped roof. I feel like coupes with usable back seats have almost gone extinct.

Good. The longroof life seems to have grown on you.

It really feels like I've had my car linger than 2 and change years but I've also only but 20k miles on it over that time.

The Mustang. It’s absurd enough to be funny without being too  bad I think. It’s exactly the kind of car I want to build for racing purposes. It’d be epic to zip around at a track day in a purple “butterfly” Mustang...

As long as you get rid of those awful chrome windshield wipers that actually sounds like a fun idea. Showing up to the track in a "secretary's car" and blowing the socks off some other Mustangs.

Honestly I think the only reason I knew it existed is because C&D had a Canary Yellow hatch as a test vehicle when the BK 3 came out way back when. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one in person.

It really looks great in person. It's a vibrant and unapologetic yellow. I like it but it's a little too loud for the average customer so I can see why it had a really low take rate. The combo of Canary Yellow in a manual sedan like the one shown has got to be very rare.
