Well, I’m laying in a stock of extra popcorn... Because “Hypocrisy On Parade” is about to go Platinum.
But, definitely, blame Harry F. Reid.

We’re fucked. Regardless of what side you’re on, this is going to start the next civil war. Nice knowing everyone.

Ya think? I’m sure they’ve been planning for this and have a toady boot kicking shithead all lined up.

Rest in Peace....

She lasted long enough that there is unlikely to be a new justice appointed until after election day. Her last wish was that she not be replaced until a new president is in office, and that is contingent upon (a) the election and (b) there being a country left to preside over in January
![]() 09/18/2020 at 19:58 |

RIP Hoped she would hold out longer . This is not good, watch them ram thru one of these yes men in her place- https://www.npr.org/2020/09/09/911194201/trump-adds-ted-cruz-tom-cotton-to-list-of-potential-scotus-picks

wow if only there were very recent precedent for an incumbent president to not replace a justice in an election year
![]() 09/18/2020 at 20:04 |
|
Yo u mean: precedent for congress blocking a president from installing a new justice in an election year.
![]() 09/18/2020 at 20:05 |
|
The only way there will be a country left in January is if there’s a new president elected in November, you think cities are on fire now, just imagine what would happen if Trump somehow got a second term, we’d be in an absolute, full blown civil war that would make the first one look like Grenada
![]() 09/18/2020 at 20:05 |

But but no judges in an election year.... we’re fucked

tiffany?
![]() 09/18/2020 at 20:08 |

Well, under the old Biden rule, an appointment in a presidential election year doesn’t get Senate consideration, but, that was in the old fashioned, collegial Senate. Harry Reid opened the floodgates with the new rule 20 procedure, and it's kind of been open season since.

If Mitch does throw in another conservative, my wife just said she wants to accelerate our emigration to nz. We’ll see.

fucking shit.
![]() 09/18/2020 at 20:12 |

The sad thing is they have until inauguration to replace her. Idk if the Dems can block them for that long. NPR had a tweet where she says " my most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed."
![]() 09/18/2020 at 20:14 |

Like they give a fuck about that. These people are weasels.

Rudy
Putin
Duterte

Honestly I think it’s more likely the other way around. Those most likely to play by the rules are the ones who have been doing so all along, unlike the Trumpsky-ites who’ve done everything they can to subvert tradition.
![]() 09/18/2020 at 20:21 |

They refused to confirm anyone until a new president was in office. And now they got their team, watch them ignore their own made up rule and not give a shit....right before they lose their majority. A last big fart in your car before getting out .
![]() 09/18/2020 at 20:23 |

Now that would be a 't otal disaster’

What, you think the folks trashing Portland will just shrug and go “well, I guess he beat us fair and square this time, come on, let's all go home and try harder in 2024"? Not likely - they might, however, decide to relocate to Washington
![]() 09/18/2020 at 20:34 |

Did you see Roger Stone loudly encouraging Trump to declare martial law if he doesn’t win? People in the streets will be angry, but they don’t have the military to deploy.
![]() 09/18/2020 at 20:38 |

Dude, and I say this lightly. Fuck that guy, Like honestly. Its appalling the kind of stuff they have pulled. Imma caravan people to come vote if that's what I gotta do to see this batch of people of out the office.
![]() 09/18/2020 at 20:40 |
|
If I remember correctly, the incumbent president did try to replace a justice in an election year. His party was just too incompetent to get them confirmed.
![]() 09/18/2020 at 20:43 |

E xcept congress changed the rules in 2017. That won’t work this time unless moderate R epublicans join the D emocrat s.
![]() 09/18/2020 at 20:52 |

Was it ever actually a written rule? I was just expecting hypocrisy.
![]() 09/18/2020 at 20:53 |

If people in the PNW try to overthrow an election, it’ll probably look more like the Bay of Pigs than Grenada. We are not going to have a civil war.
![]() 09/18/2020 at 20:55 |
|
there were filabuster rules that made it easy for the Republican s to block Obama’s nomination, they got changed... but don’t worry, I’m sure we’ll all see plenty of hypocri s y too.
![]() 09/18/2020 at 21:00 |

I really can’t fathom what that means
![]() 09/18/2020 at 21:17 |

You seem to think there won't be one if biden/Harris gets elected
![]() 09/18/2020 at 21:29 |

He’s already said he will move quickly on it. Fucking hypocritical douchebag.
![]() 09/18/2020 at 21:39 |

Nah, you'll have a bunch of fat guys on Harleys waving Trump flags and maybe carrying some guns, but they'll get bored and go home
![]() 09/18/2020 at 21:39 |
|
I’m going to be an asshole and say it was dumb and selfish of her not to retire back when she was 80 and Democrats still held the Senate and White House.
Also, the “hurr durr hypocrite much Moscow Mitch??” takes are going to make my eyes bleed. Like no shit, this is how power works.
![]() 09/18/2020 at 21:42 |
|
Doubt it, you’ll have fat rednecks m arch around with flags and yell, maybe carry around some guns and dress in surplus camo, but they’ll go home when they tire themselves out, or when it’s time to catch Hannity or the Matlock rerun. They’re not going to sacrifice their 401ks and home equity with a civil war, they’ll retreat to their echo chamber online forums and keep nodding agreement to talk radio and forwarding dubious emails
![]() 09/18/2020 at 21:42 |
|
They might , but will Trump? That’s the unanswerable question.
There are always, always, always voting irregularities, and he’ll try to drag out the drama as much as possible. Hopefully the Supreme Court will be able to play impartial arbiter, but damn, things could get ugly.
![]() 09/18/2020 at 21:45 |

We won’t find out anyway, Harris is already a done deal, everyone knows it. You don’t get re-elected with the economy in the shitter, violent uprisings in every major city, and the population under major civil controls to control the spread of a pandemic. Hell, just one of those would guarantee a landslide loss, this is going to be a bigger political bloodbath than Mondale in '84
![]() 09/18/2020 at 21:47 |
|
I will celebrate the day he finally goes to hell.
![]() 09/18/2020 at 21:48 |
|
Yes. He’ll leave in January. Depending on how close it is, he might delay conceding until after the House has certified the vote instead of doing it on election night, but that’s it, not even the tiniest shred of doubt in my mind. And it won't be close anyway, Harris will take it solidly enough that there won't be much room for challenge - think Bush 2004, not Bush 2000.
![]() 09/18/2020 at 21:52 |
|
You are correct, Obama should have replaced her when he had the chance. I can’t stand the current crop of Republicans, but I give them grudging credit for playing the long game.
![]() 09/18/2020 at 22:10 |
|
At this point I can’t get very mad anymore about Republicans doing evil things because it’s what I expect them to do. I’m much more frustrated with Democrats and liberals who seem to be perpetually taken by surprise.
![]() 09/18/2020 at 22:32 |

Honestly, I could see Putin and Duterte.

![]() 09/18/2020 at 22:38 |

Hopefully, I will waive from above. I don't understand why they are like this with policies? I'm genuinely curious, I'm worried honestly. Like if we revolted would the army intervene. What would happen, would we get invaded. I'm concerned.
![]() 09/18/2020 at 22:47 |

I suspect Mr.T will propose a selection before the body is cold, and the senate will promise the pass but you gotta vote red to get it. That's their sway move.
![]() 09/18/2020 at 23:04 |

“tOo ClOsE tO aN eLeCtIoN,” they said.
Only when it’s convenient. Absolutely ridiculous.
![]() 09/18/2020 at 23:30 |

This isn’t just the end of the Supreme Court; this is the end of the Senate as we know it. The pressure to rebalance the court (as well as the pressure to solidify right wing policy goals like ending RvW, further enhancing voter suppression tactics, ending Obamacare and social security and medicare for that matter, etc.) will be enormous. The filibuster is a dead man walking.
Trump now has the opportunity to deal damage to the foundations of the state that could take - no exaggeration - a century or more to repair. Elections have consequences, y'all.
![]() 09/19/2020 at 00:02 |

As I said elsewhere, rest in peace Justice Ginsburg. You served long and well, and you were appreciated for your service.
Now, I look forward to the appointment of another justice in the mold of the last one, with whom I was pleased. This could make a decent legacy to what was otherwise an effectual and controversial presidency.
![]() 09/19/2020 at 01:21 |

Oh come on, man. Seriously? You can’t have such little faith in our institutions. Our country has survived so much more than just a dickhead president. Have some perspective.
![]() 09/19/2020 at 01:47 |
|
Its not that we can’t survive the president, it’s that we can’t survive the reaction to the president. If he somehow wins again, shit is going to go down. Keep your loved ones indoors election night, park your cars in a locked garage, and keep a gun nearby, just in case. I mean, it will turn out fine, Harris is getting in, but a slim chance is still chance, you have to be prepared.

I just don’t the public is that stupid. We’re not some banana republic. We are a country ruled by law and our citizens believe in the law and in the idea of the US . There will certainly be assholes that like to take the opportunity to cause trouble, but they will be the extremists.
The hullabaloo we are watching now looks serious because we are so close to it, but this is nothing compared to what this country has gone through.
