Between before I bought it and after, the $500 Jeep sat for about two years so every rubber part on it is shot, and the headlights are almost opaque. Got stuff to remedy that, and prepaid for an air filter and serpentine that are on backo rder.
At least I secretly get the net price that NAPA would charge a shop, rather than the customer price. I’ve know the local NAPA guys for years and my family used to run a shop, and they’ve just kept on giving me the net price even years after the shop closed.
I figure that by time this thing is registered and legal I’m in it for about $1,000. As long as it lasts me longer than three months (it will) I’ve saved money vs. a lease.

I long cheaped out on wipers, and they were always... ok. sufficient.
but there really is something to be said for teh more expensive designs. but boy there’s some sticker shock when you think “hmm, winter is coming, lets get some new wipers for all the family rides. HOW BLOODY MUCH!?!?!?!”

Junkyard wipers are like five bucks a pop and you can usually find good ones.

I have a couple friends that are engineers for a company called DLH-Bowles , an OEM supplier that makes windshield washer components for many automakers ( Big 3, VW fam, and some of the J apanese and K orean brands). They estimate that windshield wipers have probably the highest disparity of time spent engineering the OEM solution vs. end users fucking it all up with shoddy aftermarket crap. Like even more so than jank suspension parts , fart cannon exhausts, and shit air filters.

I have long said that I would rather buy a set of $7 wipers every 6 months than a set of $25 ones every 12.

THIS! I got Bosch Icon’s from Rockauto for $24 vs $50+ everywhere else

These were only like $7 each

Yeah it’s hard to beat
RockAuto here. Local parts store pricing only makes
sense if
you really feel the
need to have them installed for free.

I recall them telling me that Bosch and Michellin are pretty good. But they are definitely a bit pricier.
