Not sure, but about $2.7 million per year seems to be the going rate

Thanks for reminding me why I stopped reading anything on Deadspin.
I’d say the article was poorly researched, but in reality it just wasn’t researched.
The premise about racism against black quarterbacks is valid. It wouldn’t take much effort to present something more convincing than some generic hindsight that mainly proves that a lot of NFL teams are just bad at evaluating talent.
Also fuck the goddamn popups.

All of that. Are there fewer white players willing to risk brain injury than there are Black players? I have issues with NFL/NBA generally as I think they exploit Black athletes. And intelligent people pay to advertise for the franchises so a few rich white men can get richer.
There. I’ll see your rant and give you one of my own.

The NFL is far worse than the NBA, not that the NBA isn’t exploiting athletes too.
Lack of guaranteed contracts, much greater potential for life altering injuries, a pay structure that uses up many athletes before they can get paid, a gross shortage of black people in coaching and management roles, and a longstanding effort to stifle the voices of those that want to use their fame to drive social change. That’s the NFL.

I offered to let the NFL exploit me, but in their words, I wasn’t talented enough. Now I get exploited for a lot less money.

I’m guessing you get a lot less exploited, and that you're plenty talented.

I’ll take more exploitation for a few more million a year.

Not if it means CTE.

I suffered several concussions playing football in high school, so the damage is probably already done. I’d definitely roll the dice for a couple of years if it meant those kind of payouts.

I don’t get why the NFL gets so much hate over CTE, it’s pretty much unavoidable at that level, unless you want to start putting a limit on how strong and fast players can be, there’s nothing you can really do to prevent it.
No one blames boxing leagues for boxers getting it
, yet for some reason the NFL is culpable for injuries people get from a sport they didn’t create.
