Yeah, it’s very rough, but it’s a manual I6 4wd, a combination I’ve struggled to find at an affordable price. And it’s teal!
Discovered it just now, sent an email, hopefully can see it later today.

It is a steal with those miles. Used car prices are really high right now, but that’s downright reasonable. I see total basket cases I wouldn’t sit in asking for more than that.

Agreed. If I’m not too late, I fully expect to commit to buying it this afternoon.

Oh I like the two doors!

I like the aesthetic but prefer the utility of the 4 door models. I’ve been living without back doors in my Jeep long enough to appreciate what I’m missing.

2-door XJs just look so... right.

That is a pretty color.

Yeah I guess I use my wagon back doors a lot for my dog, she isn’t big so it wouldn’t be a huge problem though . I dream of a first gen Range Rover 2 door with an Isuzu diesel swap. I’d learn to live with any difficulties!

As someone who’s owned a 4-door for 18 years- the 4 doors aren’t great. The doors are TEENY. The 2 door gives you the advantage of a normal-sized front door. The rear seat access on the 4-door isn’t that great because the doors are so dang small. Loading car seats and kiddos is only slightly less of a PITA with the rear doors, but I’m always banging my head on the door frame, and with the windows down, the wind hits the b-pillar and blasts into the side of your head. I’d snag a 2-door if I could do it all over.

As a former RR Classic 2 door owner...your preferred combination has me worried especially if you are thinking of the Isuzu engine I think you are thinking of. My personal recommendation for a diesel engine would be a Cummins 2.8l crate motor...lighter (which is the key) and more oomph to boot.

Finally got through. Interesting, but I don’t think I’m willing to gamble on an automatic. They’re usually cheap enough anyway.
Thanks for the pointer, always feel free to throw anything interesting my way. I really wish there was a universal search tool for used vehicles (tempest isn’t bad, but too many gaps).

$1800 is stupid cheap for a 113,000 mile 4x4 Cherokee. No airbag, rust, and a t eal too pure for most people’s decaying souls is probably why, but I say go for it.
I love the color. I love the drivetrain. I love the two door proportions. I love the vent windows. Do it already!

I’ve sent two emails with no response. May be too late.
This gorgeous one popped up not too far from you...

$6,500 is a bit much for those miles. It appears to have been very well maintained though. Great color too. Green looks so good on these cars.
But I don’t really want an offroad vehicle. Fun fact: the first car I went to look at before I got my Cruze I looked at a later run Cherokee. Auto, 2wd, stupid lift, it was everything you dislike about them. Oh, and the headliner was a UGA (eww) blanket. Oh, and it overheated before we even drove it. Oh, and they guy had owned it a month. So many red flags. For some reason it is really hard to find 4x4 SUVs around here.
Another car I came really close to buying. It was a gloriously green second gen Nissan Pathfinder from when they were cool. Not sure if it was 4x4 but I loved it. Sadly it had a disconcerting irregular vibration in the suspension. If not I might have never gone to look at the Cruze.
But just look at this Xterra! https://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/cto/d/atlanta-2004-nissan-xterra/7183605974.html
It’s hard to tell if it is 4x4 but it’s a manual and only 3k.
What else can you get with 3k? Well, this:

My friend had an absolute base Patriot. 2wd, windy windows, 5 speed. It was pretty terrible all around. Still, it was so bad it was good again in a weird sort of way. I have many fond memories of it.

Really though I’d never buy that Cherokee for the same price as this restored Corvair. Mmmmmm. This is much more my style. https://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/cto/d/marietta-1962-chevrolet-corvair-monza/7181079777.html
But if you want a cheap manual 4x4, the Saturn Vue exists. And this one is blue. And dare I say it usspiciously immaculate. https://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/cto/d/marietta-saturn-vue/7185929555.html

I’ve definitely given the Xterra some thought, but they’re very hard to find here. Really all 4x4s are hard to find here, much like you indicate.
There’s a very clean manual Cherokee on the south side of Indianapolis, but it’s overpriced ($5200, yikes) and only a 4 cylinder, sadly.
Still, maybe if I can talk them down a couple of grand...

Xterras might be more common down here as Nissans have a loyal customer base down here in particular. No idea why but they do.
Would you really want a 4 cyl Cherokee though? 4 liter or die.

No, but the search is flailing.
![]() 08/30/2020 at 14:28 |

It’s shocking how expensive they have become. I really think the Xterra or early Pathfinder would be a good choice but I also don’t know how corrosion resistant they are. You are after the capability and the words “Jeep” instantly drive up prices it seems.

Oh I thought I had seen kits for all the Land Rover and I saw Isuzu but I don’t know which. Whatever is best! I’d probably put a different engine in my Dodge M37 before I ever got to that project.

That rust looks bad. I can only imagine what the underside looks like

Shhhh. No pessimism allowed.
Although after a day with no response to multiple emails, I’m not optimistic it’s still available.

That teal XJ is still listed, and still not responding to my emails. MADDENING.

Nooooo if they sold it they should say “go away already.”

I’m about to go look at every apartment complex in Anderson. Only 55k people, how long can that take?

Given a week it might be done. It helps that the teal color stands out.
