Went for a five and a bit hour drive today. The goal? 60 kilometres of gravel road. There was a longer route, but with the day coming to an end, I didn’t want to get caught in a spot with no cel l service.
“bUt WhY wOuLd YoU dO tHaT?” Because very few people know what grid road life is like and hot damn is it nice to just haul arse on some turns.

We agree on the value of a long trek to visit gravel roads, but that’s where the similarity ends.

I only have to travel outside my front gate to get a gravel road in far worse condition than that one!

I’m not sure I’ve ever d riven a gravel road in such good condition. And not many that were that wide. Hauling ass arou nd a turn was the most common cause if you saw a car upside down in the ditch when I was a kid .
F or the proper gravel-road experience you really need to be in a pickup. Ideally, a half-ton regular cab longbed .

It is shockingly rare to find any unpaved section of road here. Even driveways are almost always paved. You wouldn't be finding many poorly maintained ones either. My count of public unpaved roads is now sitting at three and I've been looking.

I’ve driven many thousands of kilometres of gravel in a pickup.
