Down under nothing would stop me from having some version of an FJ 70 Toyota. There are more and more of these in California now, not as many as the four door Jeeps but I see them a few times a week now.

I kinda like the CLA longroof in front of it. If they’d sold them in North America I’d consider one as I find the sedan ugly.

Also, Raptor in front of said Mercedes? Are they selling F150s in Oz now? I seem to recall GM was importing their full sizers and converting them to RHD so I assume the same is being done for the Fords?

Same owner? Raptors are kinda passe here at this point but I can't imagine they are too common down there either.

That's one short license plate number!

I have to say, a lift makes a world of difference. I saw one at normal ride height on the highway today and I wasn’t impressed.

Not that I wouldn’t love to have one.

I saw an older Jeep with some cool graphics, in the DOTS tomorrow!

Probably his driveway.

Or he’s just big-dickin’ in his fancy new Jeep.

Probably most people don’t really care though. Looks like any other jeep.

I actually glanced at the shocks and they said both JEEP and FOX on them. I suspect they’re factory. Not sure if that means it’s lifted or what, but I don’t think it’s aftermarket at least.

You really do see those, brand new 70-series. Always gets me. Pointed one out to a friend recently. Very, very few cars have been in production this long and are still around in their 80s guise more or less.

Not bad. I take some issue, with the loud ass farty exhausts and the fact that it’s more of a wagony coupe thing and it’s a bit droopy. But they’re pretty cool.

Yep, is a Raptor. That’s been parked there a while, it’s actually a company car for Sheen’s panel repair. I’m not sure about the F150, they might be. You only see a very small amount of pickups that big, there’s always a chance they’re grey imported and converted. I’m not sure where the Raptor stands but I think that’s converted and sold by Ford.

I think it is, yeah. It’s a company car for Sheen’s panel repair ;) Not too common but not fantastically rare. That one’s been parked there for a while, but when I first saw it I definitely took note.

Lol it sure is. I’m not sure if it’s the same as numbers, but I reckon that’s quite an expensive plate. IIRC a single-digit number can cost 100k or more.

In case you wanted more info...

If this is to be believed it was first registered 2 days ago! Brand new.

I was about to question it but if your lawn care people are white they’ll be driving a lifted F250 or bigger down here. And plenty of small family owned companies like this one roofing co have eclectic fleets of modified vehicles. That one company had a smart car and a lifted Tundra for appraisal work.

That’s nuts!

Canada doesn’t really do single digit numbers - BC in particular has a minimum of two characters on a personalized plate, and they can’t all be numbers. But then, we also can’t pay more for plates than what they cost at the counter, so to speak. No one combo is worth more than another.

I was in Japan when they released that updated version, I went down to the Megaweb and sat in it, want so much. I was in Oz a few years ago and I was just drooling all over the country. I could import one, maybe in the future if it’s bright.

I think our fancier plates sell on the aftermarket. I don’t think it’s the government setting high prices, though you do have to pay extra for pretty much anything other than a standard plate.

Very strange, very strange. In Aus nobody needs a vehicle F250 size it would seem. When you do see them they look absurd. To think America has gotten to the point where it’s a sort of norm is mind boggling. The poor planet!

Well, is an F250 that much worse for the environment than an Isuzu NPR box truck like the more professional lawn care people use ? They are mostly* used for commercial enterprises that require towing. The F150 is the commuter truck that normies drive (and they are fun and useful vehicles). Sure, they're big, but not F250 or F350 size. Though some people do drive them because they can.

I’ve not done the comparisons. Hey, maybe it’s better for the environment to drive an F250, rather than a box truck and  a regular car

My point is that they get better mpgs unladen than a box truck and are more flexible while getting similar mpgs towing a trailer.

It’s the guys that just have a truck, a trailer, and some lawn mowers that use the slightly less practical setup while the  actual  companies operate fleets of NPRs as lawn care service. You know whether the guys will be white or hispanic based on what they roll up in. It may sound like a sweeping generalization but it is very true because the pickup truck drivers have it as a seasonal endeavor that leaves a good daily in the winter while a real company can take the hit for having them sit half the year.

I’m guessing you guys can transfer plates between people, right? With us, plates are permanently  tied to the owner and can’t ever be transferred to someone else (unless you inherit a car). So there’s no aftermarket for plates - if you don’t nab a particular plate when it's new, then that's it...

Yeah I think we can. So certain desirable personalised plates probably get passed around.
