Kinja'd!!!

My reaction was threefold and went as follows:

“I’m impressed he knew that this food truck was unusual enough to interest me. I doubt he knew what the double chevron meant but look, he even photographed the back.”

Kinja'd!!!

Then, I thought the following:

“Wait, there’s a Citroen HY Van on campus! THERE’S A CITROEN HY VAN ON CAMPUS! THERE’S AT LEAST ONE COMMERCIALLY USED CITROEN IN ATLANTA!”

Then, it dawned on me:

“It’s dark outside. The pictures show sunlight. I saw a generic food truck this afternoon parked for a few hours and it is no longer there.”

“I missed it.”

It’s amazing how quickly the brain turns a thoughtful text message dark.

Well, judging by their extremely aggressively user-hostile website, it’s always at the same corner:  https://www.google.com/maps/place/Wall+Street+Southwest+%26+Peachtree+Street,+Atlanta,+GA+30303/@33.7537037,-84.3924807,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x88f50386a54cb4d5:0x27f10bd16943c04d!8m2!3d33.7537037!4d-84.390292?shorturl=1

Woah, that has to be the worst website I’ve ever seen. It’s nothing .

https://wheeliesdonuts.com/

I don’t see where you got that. Their insta was no help.

You have to wait. The website keeps morphing until it finally gives you a contact link.

Please, tell them their website is terrible when you visit and tell them how awesome their truck is.

With British licence plates.

Registered on the 31st December 1 971, it has a petrol, 1,911cc engine and last V5C (logbook) issued on the 15th August 2018 and MOT (inspection) expired on the 27th September 2019.

For me that link is hidden behind the GDPR cookies banner (which seems somewhat unnecessary here, while also being inadequate for compliance).

And yeah that website is terrible (restaurants are a whole class of badness completely ignoring any reasonable UX conventions to get some flashy thing that presumably looked good to someone?)

That’s awesome! Your job is now to go find it and provide us details from an in-person experience! :D

It’s a more recent import than I imagined then. It probably hasn’t been in the country more than a year. Good find!

Interesting bit about the drivetrain too. I suppose it’s not unexpected for it to be a gas engine. I suppose it was most likely converted to food truck duty in the US.

Kinja'd!!!

Georgia requires a rear facing plate, but no officer would pull them over for a front windshield mounted one.

The only thing they care about is that the plate is visible from the rear. You could put 20 license plates besides it to make it confusing if you wanted to. The front Euro plate thing is common in no-front-plate states and sometimes people put them on the rear too but usually they give the valid state plate precedence.

It doesn’t tell me where to find it so I don’t see what good it does.

Believe me, I take this job seriously. I want to go get some proper photos and maybe see if the owners are as cool as I suspect most American HY Van owners are. Though their terrible website doesn’t give me as much hope as I started out with.

Just Jeepin’ claims to have found their normal spot but they weren’t there when I walked past last Saturday afternoon.

This one only seems to have the U.K. plate, up top and that's it.

I might be able to get in a working hours walk to 5 Points. It’s kinda far but considering the potential reward it’s not too shabby. They weren’t there at 6 on Saturday but that’s not unexpected. Maybe I could relax in Woodruff Park without a street revival crowd scaring me away.

And no, I do not care to sit through that stupid animation again.

Though I do live that they called it their Citroen Kitchen. I don’t like the lack of umlaut but then again I didn’t use it either (computocation device don’t have none of it).

Yes, it’s not legal to not have a plate on the back anywhere in the country, but it does have one. It’s just in the front window because they didn’t want to drill into their van.

Is that the usual place for the HY Van’s plate?

Someone capable of getting an umlaut into a website text would also know better than a long animation on their website as a gatekeeper (I clicked out of curiosity but gave up waiting after a few seconds..)

Exactly. But I also don’t associate poor attention to detail and shortsightedness with American Citroen owners.

Huh I’m more familiar with the two level black one on the rear barn door gate thing. Seems like a good out of the way place for it at least where the door won’t block visibility.

I’m often surprised how many of the imports have U.K. licence plates, either registered from new in the U.K. or their final registration was in the U.K.

I guess it’s easier to buy from abroad if you speak and read the same language rather than having to translate it or have it translated for you.

I understand many even exporting from western Europe often go via Southampton, U.K. so having to get a car from Italy, to the U.K. to be put on a roll-on, roll-on ferry or into a contain would be more hassle and money than getting a U.K. one and paying a little extra for the seller to transport it or drive it to the port.

Yeah Europe doesn’t name their cities after their across the pond cousins like we do (Rome, Athens Ga, etc). Would make it ultra confusing though.

The Ford Ranger in the background does narrow down the location for sure.

It’s not just that. Used cars in the UK are often way less expensive because of the other costs associated with registering them there. Not sure how that applies to classics. Plus the proximity and language probably helps too.

Plus, people like to keep the authentic license plates as clout. A real foreign market plate is cooler than those replica vanity ones people usually have.

That’s absolutely amazing and I want a Decathlon here now. I think any gain in American Citroens is a positive gain. Even if they have to play the part of corporate mascots.

HOLY CRAP CALIFORNIA YOU DON’T KNOW HOW GOOD YOU HAVE IT WHEN YOU’RE NOT ON FIRE!

An ID Break ! I have seen two (2) Citroens ever, both 2CVs, which is two more than the most people who look out for such things see in the amount of time I’ve been alive.

That ID makes me bubble with joy. I can’t explain it but all of a sudden I think it might be time to change my wallpaper.

Ok, that wagon just gave me chills. The curves, the roof racks , the head and tail lights... It’s beautiful.

You’re building manager must’ve been a real cool cat... or maybe not, it’s kind of a roll of the dice.

He was cool for his age for sure! He was kinda getting up there and I’m convinced somebody made him an offer he couldn’t refuse one day as he was out and about (he drove it pretty much daily). He swapped it for a Focus hatchback and I’ve since moved out.

Oh man that bites, I wouldn’t have been complaining if I got to look at that beauty every day either. I need to get to Cali, the cars are cooler there.
