Recently GM had their “Tech Day” in China to talk about their !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
For Buick they had two EVs on display which were also shown at GM’s battery day in the US. Those who saw the vehicles described them as a standard CUV and a more athletic sport wagon-looking vehicle.
With you are two new Buick EVs, designed in Shanghai.
The new designs connect to Buick’s storied design history... modernized for an electric future. Our distinct new look will be marked by...
• high lamps with a wing graphic shape,
• a low-set grille, and
• a body-mounted badge.
It will also have a reinterpreted sculptural sharknose.
We believe this modern face brings a dignified elegance to the new Buick portfolio.
If you look through the official !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! this sketch seems to match up pretty well to the description.

It looks like every concept car drawn by every 3rd year automotive design student, filtered through an AI algorithm.

Squished bodonk a donk. It’s hideous.

Not gonna lie, I completely forgot Buick existed for the past few months. There just
hasn’t been much mention of them in the news, and their lineup is mega dull.

This. There’s very little on there that's at all original, and even less that could actually be translated to a production car

Let's be honest - if/when it ever hits production, it'll end up looking like every other crossover/SUV already on the road.

Buick concepts should all start life as another company’s concept that is altered, as that’s how their cars are made

In other words, standard GM.

What about the front end have you seen already o n the market?
![]() 08/25/2020 at 23:33 |

Not on the market, but in any number of fancifully impractical sketches, why every designer nowadays has to draw like this I'll never know. The wheels are especially ridiculous, it's like whoever did it started sketching a Tron Lightcycle and then just draped a car body over it as an afterthought

The quote in the original post focuses on the front end. Obviously the wheels and squished profile would never make production.

Now that Opel is no longer a part of GM I guess they have to come up with something of their own

The styling IP would have belonged to GM so it probably could have gone either way. Opel has a larger lineup, Buick can now focus on styling for the Chinese and US market, and I’m sure it made it easier for Opel during the transition as one less thing to worry about.

Buick has two EVs on the way. One is a standard CUV, but the other has been described as closer to a sport wagon. I’m thinking some combination of a “coupe” CUV, wagon something or other.

Buick has actually been doing pretty well and even outsells Acura and Infin iti. S o its reaching its target audience.

Its not every designer, but it damn sure is close to every designer at GM.
