Y ou folks kinda like hike pics ? Ran down to Rainier this morning and did Burroughs 1, 2 and 3 - 9 miles, 2500 gross vert topping out at 7828' - pretty darn amazing place. My feet hurt. And the road up to the trail head is pretty darn amazing too..

When the travel restrictions get lifted, eventually, Rainier is high on my list of mountains to climb. It wouldn’t be the tallest I’ve climbed but it will require more serious skill (a mountaineering course, likely) and training than my previous summits.

I  really like the PNW, I did a trip to Portland and hiked Mt. St. Helens in 2014 and I look forward to going back.

I had a boss a number of years ago that climbed Rainier - attempted twice, made it once. He’s gone on to do some others , spent some time in the Himalayas , etc but said Rainier was probably the hardest he’s done. It kills several folks a year. I’m happy to saunter up one of it’s hips on a nice summer day with no snow!

It would definitely be a serious undertaking if I have a go at Rainier. I’d probably want to do Mt Adams or Mt Hood first, ideally both. I certainly wouldn’t make Rainer my next summit, I’m not ready for that at all. I’ve done Mt Whitney, which is the tallest mountain in the contiguous US but it only has ~100’ on Rainier, and it’s in California so the climate is much friendlier after you get above the trees.

If I get a chance I may try one of the 10,000+ ft summits in Canada this summer, though I think I’d prefer to avoid air travel for a while longer.
