Furthur down the diesel rabbit hole I found not a diesel Rabbit (cool) but a diesel Pontiac 6000 (bizarre)

It’s a 4.3 v6 chopped down from an olds 350 diesel v8. there was a chev celebrity so equipped for sale around here but I couldn’t find any evidence such a thing existed. In the Land of Ontario (how the hell is this not rusty?) there is this lovely 6000 for sale right now.

Price seems fair for something that supposedly has no rust. $2500 still seems like a lot for what is only worth something as a curiousity.

$2500 Canadian is a good price for a rust-free car that runs

In 1985, the full-size FWD GM cars got a diesel engine (a variant of the same 4.3L V6) called, wait for it... LS2 :p

$2500 CAD may be overpriced. The car may not be worth the hassle. It’s old enough that parts will be hard to find and repairs could get expensive. Brakes and suspension parts won’t be a problem, but any powertrain issues won’t be simple to fix. It also has no airbags, no antilock brakes and it handles like a boat.

Add to that the fact that the car will be slow. I got to drive a friend’s 1984 Buick Regal Diesel in the early 90s, and it felt horribly underpowered to me. It had torque, but it took forever to get moving. Let me clarify that my daily driver was a 1982 Dodge Aries. (Don’t judge me; it was a free car.) The Buick felt underpowered compared to the Dodge.

So just under 2K USD, if it is actually sound, maybe fair to the enthusiast of rare but forgotten vehicles.

I remember coming across this kind of stuff 20-25 years ago, seeing things like a diesel Tempo or Escort, and there was a diesel Monte Carlo in town.  Never see any of that today.

I learned to drive in an 81 k-car, hard to be slower than that.

It would be a 24 hour nonstop drive to go have a look (Canada being quite large), typically one would skip most of Ont ario and d etour through USA. Not on the menu right now, also these c ars suck.

That’s gotta be a tight fit sideways in the A body. I had a bonneville, lots of room in there.
