18" wheels are back in style
I declare it, and I’m sure Gordon Murray agrees.
Thank you for coming to my tedtalk

Nope, 17" is the largest that should ever be installed anywhere.

I’m committed to, for once, being ahead of the trend. I’m going 14s right now.

This is a very good counterargument, but zoom in on the front wheel for the only reason my car doesn't have c4 sawblades

I’ll allow 18’s but that’s it.

It is way overdue for the wagon wheel fad to end.
The 1957 Forward Look Chryslers made do with 14" wheels - look how low and sleek this Plymouth is - would you really want to put anything bigger on it?

The other day I saw a non Police Explorer that had 18” wheels on it. Rather than the typical 20s they looked nice.
I’ve spec’d put a new ram a few times. I’d have to go with the Laramie Longhorn with the 4x4 offroad package. It’s the nicest trim you can get with 18”s. Plus you can opt for 2 town paints which I also like.

Ohhh I want to know more about that PPV.

After having 16" wheels on the first Superb, I didn’t think I’d ever want anything bigger than 17"s, but the last two Superbs came with 18" wheels and the ride has been fantastic as there is still plenty of tyre wall to handle any sudden potholes without damaging the wheels themselves.
They look neither too big nor too small on the car.

I was behind a caprice a few weeks ago and it definitely had an exhaust at least. Sounded pretty darn good

I’m on 16 s so...

For the ride, what is important is not the wheel diameter but the tire height and the newer generation of Superb have 235/45 R18 while older had 225/45 R17 so the 18" on the newer ones would be similar in term of comfort to the 17" in the older generations ; to me the ideal tire height for a non sports- car is between 45 and 55 .
S o the external diameter of the tires is bigger on the newer ones which means that tires will be more expensive but that i will (at least in my opinion) look better/sportier .

I like this very much.

It’s a great, classic look. For awhile I thought modern Lorinsers looked better, but have completely come around on the body colored wheel caps.

Checks fleet...
15" wheels, check
16" wheels, check
17" wheels, check
...crap I also have a set of 19s. But it’s allowed because 15" front rotors

Wheels as small as the brakes will allow is the goal lol
I have gen1 ctsv brembos so the minimum is 18"
But I also have a set of 19"s as my guilty pleasure

Ctsv1 brakes, vcm otr intake, solo axlebacks, custom hsv foam front seats and g8 interior swap, black painted roof, spoiler

Mine has solo axlebacks which is just a muffler delete

This is really the right take lol
This is a 235/50 which is probably a nice balance between ride and performance

Those are some very big brakes

Fun thing to consider is that supersport motorcycles, some of the quickest accelerating and fastest machines on the road, all use 17" wheels, so that in and of itself lends some credence to the idea that 17" is the ideal performance wheel size, when brakes don’t have to be contained within them.
Well, that plus McLaren F1

I’ve gone down some build thread rabbit holes with these before and it sounds like you have done it right. How bad was the interior swap? Also, can you toss a rear facing child’s seat in the back without sacrificing too much up front? Trying to future proof the fleet for anticipated family unit growth.

The front seat would never notice it, the extended wheelbase gives you so much room
The console swap was a lot of work, maybe if I hadn't done it in July it would have been more pleasant, but it's basically just Legos or building a computer, everything goes in one way

Both my motorcycles have 17", but my Schwinn varsity has 27"s

Good to know. Or bad to know. I have a feeling that if I pick up a PPV I will get bit with the mod bug pretty quick. I guess I need to drive one first but this is now on my radar. Thanks for sharing!
