I’ll be eating this bacon-encrusted donut from Sidecar Doughnuts & Coffee today, and will have a full review up soon. What do y’all wanna know about it?

Bacon should just be bacon. Putting it on things/in things is wrong.

I’ve had something similar from Duck Donuts before, so my questions relate to that. How much maple flavor is in the icing? Could the donut stand by itself if it didn’t have any icing (i.e., would it make a good plain donut)? Are you having it with coffee?

Is it actually any good?

Despite my username, I will confess that some bacon flavoured stuff is not that good.
- Lester’s Fixin’s bacon soda: terrible
- Bacon gum balls: like chewing on a piece of ham fat
- Bacon toothpaste: tastes like liquid smoke
- Bacon popcorn: was so bad we had to air out the house, and couldn’t stomach more than a handful

Where is this place?

Blue Star Donuts (of Portland, believe they have a few locations elsewhere too) has a bacon maple donut. I quite like it mainly because its not completely covered in bacon or maple syrup. Restraint is good when working with stuff that is so strongly flavored.

But at close to $5 a donut I want to gag at these things when I buy them (which isn’t often) . Which is not so bad when it tastes like bacon, mmmmm.

Jones’ Bacon soda was also foul, and I don’t remember the popcorn being much better.

On the other hand, Bacon Salt is great on popcorn, and Baconn aise is great on sandwiches and burgers...

They have a few locations throughout SoCal; they’re a  relatively new donut shoppe (since 2013) and make lots of other crazy donuts like a chocolate-chip cookie dough doughnut. It’s pretty wild.

How legitimate is that bacon? The one near me cooks and dices thick cut bacon every morning for theirs. Can only eat one per month though or else I go into a coma
