Yeah I’m really wishing my parents invested in some tech stocks.

Only in mutual funds. I do have one share of Intel stock, which has no doubt taken a hit from Apple dumping them, among many other recent failures.

I sold all my SLB stock and bought some shares. I’m down big from when I worked there, so I figured I’d cut my loses and put it into something that will probably out preform SLB long term.

My aunt bought some around the mid 1990's, when she sold it in the mid-2000's I think she cleared $30k+....

Just as PC’s went from Expensive Nerdtoy to Everyday Necessity in the late 90s, my mom bought some Microsoft. Fast forward a few years, MSFT stock paid for my entire undergrad tuition. Go mom!

I have a little...average purchase price $23/share (some of it I bought for around $10, some for more).
DAMN ASH YOU MUST BE RICH!
Well, I sold about 90% of it over the years as it kept hitting new highs. That’s just how you have to do it, otherwise you end up having your entire life savings tied up in one company...

My younger brother was an early adopter of Apple, and has a bit of stock in the company, although I don’t know how much. To give you an idea of how early he bought in, his email address is his first name @mac.com

I’m too cheap to buy when a companies individual share price is that high. I did buy a fair bit of AMD stocks 2 years ago when it was $12 though and my portfolio is very happy about that right now.

I have a .me address and a .mac address. But I have no stock. I have only been adding to the stock’s value by buying their products.

Hell no I won’t have anything to do with them. I’ve worked on their shows, they are massive fucking assholes with no sense of reality. I refuse to work for them now, not that they will have a show this year!

I’ve shared this before. When I was a kid (I’m old) I wanted an Apple ][. In 1978 I got one. About that time, Apple had their IPO. My Dad bought 100 shares of Apple at the IPO. He held onto it in his retirement account until he died in 2003.
Mom inherited it at that point. I went with her to the bank to see what should be done in the account. The broker suggested that Apple was in trouble, and it was just better to clean out all the old junk stock and suggested that she sell it. She sold it. Probably for a few hundred dollars. Mom died and my brother and I inherited the garbage stock that the broker bought instead.
According to what I can find, that 100 shares would be 5600 shares today. Thank you moron broker. You cost our family over 2 million dollars.

That sucks. I wonder how much the broker made off that deal.

I’m destined to never make a killing in the market. I really shouldn’t complain. I bought some AAPL at 90 a few years ago, and again this year at 360 . I’m still holding those, so I’ve got a tidy profit. I just don’t have FU! money.

We have a mutual fund that was started by my wife’s grandmother, and then added to by her mother. I’m not really sure how much it’s worth, but it’s done reasonably well, even in spite of corona, and we just let it ride.

That’s really not a bad strategy. I’ve done much better with investments that I’ve never touched than those I did. After the first dot-bomb I started investing in index funds. Single stocks are horse racing bets if you don’t take the time to study and devote much time in. In the spring I started following a guy local to me that does a small YouTube investing channel. He convinced me to buy some Apple, Amazon, Microsoft and Google when they dipped earlier in the year. So far so well, but I do feel the itch to get out. But my gut is a notoriously bad barometer. (See above message about selling Apple...I know I could have just told mom to hang onto it...what did it matter?)

I don’t know nearly enough about finances to even consider playing the market myself. I’d be living in a box under a bridge if I did.
