A few people chuckled when I listed my Tacoma, all the way back in May , for 30K. I did know what I had, as it turns out. After waffling for months and reaching the final straw on a camping trip this past weekend, yesterday I re- listed my Tacoma. At the new low, low price of $ 28,500. When I listed it at $30,000 I believed the truck to be worth about $ 26K-27K. I even said so back then.

Huzer called it though. With prescient knowledge of the Colorado Tacoma market, he deemed $ 30K high with $28K solidly in the NP range even with the repaired hail damage. I did do some basic research/price comparisons. There were no TRD Sport Tacomas under 30K, 2016+, in the Denver metro area when I listed it yesterday . A few were around $ 31-$ 32K despite having ~45K miles

I had 3 real buyers. Several emails and texts of non-serious buyers, but I don’t count those. Two out of the three scheduled times to see it on the first day. The third one lost out due to playing phone tag all afternoon. The first one to see it bought it. I texted the later appointment to tell them not to come.

The Tacoma went from listed to sold in under six hours. I shook hands at $28,300 and I am meeting the buyer at his bank over lunch. For those of you keeping score at home, I purchased the Tacoma new in February of 2016. I bought it at $ 32,500 with an MSRP of $ 33, 859. Depending on how you want to slice it, that means and average Tacoma, with a few scratches and a door ding or two was worth 84-87% of what it was when new, after 4.5 years and 60,000 miles. That translates to 13% -16% depreciation, roughly 2.9-3.5% per year at 13K miles per year.

Stay tuned for the on going volumes of Future Next Gen S2000's truck swapping saga.

Which is asinine to me, if one wants a Tacoma they should just go buy a new one. It’s a little bit more, but then you get a brand new truck and not a five year old one for 85% the price of a new one. I will never understand the prices on these.

Your numbers exactly mirror mine, although I had a few less miles. 4.5 years, 40k miles, my 2015 TRD Sport, sold for $28,500, paid $32, 500 on a $34,235MSRP when new.

Interesting to note, I just pulled out the Monroney for the Tacoma to verify the MSRP and noticed the sticker price on the 4Runner. I paid $36,500 for the 4Runner on a $41,454 sticker, I had no idea it stickered for over $40k. Haha. While 4Runners have good resale, I’ll be hard pressed to match the Taco resale numbers. I’d say closer to 75-80%.

Me either but I would lie if I said the resale didn’t play a role when I bought it .  What’s 3-4K over the life of a typical car loan, 5 bucks?

People in Colorado love these damn things. If you can buy a 2016+ and get it shipped to Colorado for 22-24K, I could move them all day at 28. Make a couple grand each per car. Easy money.

Here’s a question for you. Given we are at altitude, would you have a bigger engine or nav? I’m split on 2 F-150's. One has nav with the 2.7TT , the other has the big 3.5 TT motor.

It’s crazy to think I can go up a year and into a bigger class of vehicle with the same mileage as the Taco.

I don’t blame you for taking that into consideration. Still doesn’t make any logical sense for a vehicle like that to retain it’s value that well. It’s not some rare discontinued vehicle. You can walk onto the lot and buy one.

That’s great, I hope you get a good full size out of this cash. My mom’s boyfriend traded straight up a 2013 TRD 4 door with a 2013 Chevy Avalanche “black edition” LTZ )-don’t judge. Same miles on both, yet the Taco in the dealers eyes was more valuable than the chevy. TBH the Chevy is really nice, unless you need the offroad chops I think the full size is a better choice here .

I’m looking at 3 trucks right now. Two are 2017's with the same miles, one is a 2016 with 75K but cheaper. I’ll be able to improve the model year or my wallet with no real hit to mileage.

Know you weren’t asking me, but my opinion is that the nav doesn’t make much difference, except for the fact that the 4" screen in the non-nav one makes the interior look incredibly dated (and would impact resale down the road) . I’d keep looking if you can, I assume there has to be a decent volume of F-150's to choose from.

I’m superficial and don’t like the tiny screen in non-Nav Fords. However, I’d probably get over it and go with the bigger engine. I wonder if you could find a ‘17, since it has the 10 speed transmission, for a similar price.

The answer to your question is yes. The nicer one is no longer available. Here’s a ‘17 in Aurora with the 10 speed and 3.5.

There is a large amount but few with nav within my price range. I really just don’t like the tiny screen. It does make the interior look dated.
