The only collecting going on will be the dust on that one as it doesn’t sell.

Oh, 4Runner prices are insane as well, a quick cars.com search of 2019s had quite a few listed for more than I paid for mine new...with more miles on them.

Used SR5 Tundras are selling for around $40k, and I’ve had quotes for new ones for less.

Toyota prices for anything used and  BOF are insane.

This is why when I replace the R-class in a couple years and go for something more off-road capable I’m probably just going to get a GLS. Everything else is stupidly priced for what you get, especially used. Then there’s crap economy for the power, and old tech everywhere else, and bleh handling.

But with my employee discount, a new GLS with steel skid plates, two speed transfer case, and EABC suspension isn't that much more than a loaded yota. Or I could go the used GLS option and be looking at like half the price of a loaded used yota. It's insane. The GLS obviously won't be as capable, but I'm not doing Moab in it, just unmaintained forest roads in snow/mud at worst.

Last year my brother bought a 2019 4runner TRD Pro and Tacoma TRD Sport to replace his GTI and Odyssey. He found a dealer giving a very good discount on the Voodoo Blue 4runner, not sure how well he did on the Quicksand Tacoma, but his theory was he could sell both  for more than he paid in a year. He may just be right

Toyota things.

Our Highlander is approaching one-year-old with 10k miles and is still worth more than we paid for it.

If I could get what I see for asking prices, it’ll  be like getting paid about $2k for driving it the past couple of years.

They are. While it’s only 2wd, I’m still hoping to get my in-laws Tundra when they move out here.

I guess if there’s one good thing about a Toyota, I haven’t had to visit the dealer for anything for any of mine. The Grand Cherokee has been in the shop three days now for a seat belt issue.

I had never even looked at/considers a GLS. Those look quite nice. How’s the maintenance on one?

It’s tempting... Carvana’s offer was what I paid 2 years and 30k miles ago.

If you go 2016 and newer 450 (2016 is GL450, 17 up is GLS), then they’re fantastic. Like seriously I can’t name a common issue to worry about. Brakes are 30-40k, rotors every other time if you’re very lucky. Plugs at like 50k. Tires, well, the factory ones suck, but I’d immediately put on a chunky AT anyways. Trans service is due at 70k, but I’d suggest a little earlier, 50-60k, just to be exceedingly cautious. IIRC, 1 6 (maybe 15...? But I don’t think so ) is still the old 7 speed, and newer than that got the new 9 speed. I wouldn’t be concerned about either as long as you service them.

2020 is the new chassis with the new I6 engine. Reliability is yet to be seen. I don’t suggest going this route yet unless you’re me and can get the big discount with a big warranty. Just in case.

Unfortunately, on a 166, you can’t get a 450 with the off-road package. So no steel skid plate, no two speed transfer case. But it still comes with ESP settings (at least I’m pretty sure, the knob on the center console makes it obvious ) for different terrain and adjustable air suspension (struts will probably leak when they’re about ten years old, but so far so good). Nothing really hangs below the frame anyways, so minor scrape s shouldn’t be an issue, just don’t drop it on rocks. They have plenty of power, so the transf er case upgrade seems a bit pointless anyways considering anywhere you’d really want it probably isn’t somewhere you’re taking one of these anyways.

167 you can get steel skid plates and EABC (electronic active body control, which is to say fancy new ABC, the hydraulic suspension of SL fame) in the 450, but can’t get the full off-road package unless you jump to the 580 which starts at 20k more than the 450. F that even though it’s super dope.

Do not get a 166 with a V8. That engine was amazing for a few years, but lately has been stabbing us in the back. So this rules out a 166 with off-road package.

But the 16 up 450 should be perfect. Bi-turbo V6, plenty of power, stupid reliable, decent economy for it’s size. A coworker just picked up a 16 450 for like 15k maybe? Definitely under 20k, with only a very very small employee discount.

Best part? Heated and cooled cupholders were an option on all of these.
