I traded my G37 for an Xterra.

It’s an 07 SE with 213k miles, so just a couple months worth of driving more than the G. The guy is giving me $200 on top of my G, and the Xterra is in fantastic mechanical condition. The G was about to need $1200+ in service, plus a complete paint job or wrap. Overall, I’m super happy with the trade and the Xterra has been an absolute champ on the highway. I’ve also ordered a new Pioneer head unit with android auto and I’m upgrading the speakers tonight or tomorrow. I’m pretty excited to take it off-road too, even if just on milder trails. My fiancée adores it too and has been calling it “her car”.

Verra nice. I thought that corner you showed me looked Xterra-ish.

Look up the Xterra coolant in transmission issue. My sister just traded her 06 Xterra in, the trans oil cooler and engine coolant share the same radiator and the seal separating the two let the coolants mix and ruins the transmission parts and electricals.

You can do a bypass, but I never got that far.

Yours looks in better condition, same paint wear by the bottom of door I see :)

Yep, I did the bypass this morning! It has the tow package so the transmission does have a cooler, just not the radiator interconnect. I’ll probably upgrade it at some point, but not a concern for now.

Overall, it’s got some nicks and and scratches and a lot of swirl marks, but perfect for my uses. And the interior is in good shape too!

Looks good! I've been looking for a SUV myself and the Xterra is definitely on the list.

congrats, those are cool.  My neighbor’s in home care nurse got a yellow one a few months ago, (she likes yellow, even put yellow seat covers on it.)

I saw a yellow one for sale along side the street several months ago, and of course because it was yellow I was immediately interested.

It’s basically a 4Runner but actually affordable. I’ve driven both and for the money, the Xterra is a significantly better value.

I had a Frontier as a rental for about a month and honestly loved it other than the awful gas mileage . I don’t see a lot of Xterra’s that aren’t thrashed for sale around here.

Lately my eyes had trended towards Sequoias which are definitely bigger but nearly indestructible and fairly affordable too.

I own an 05 Pathfinder with 168k.  What Brickman describes is the only major flaw in these things (besides terrible gas mileage) so if you took care of that,  you should have a real nice truck without paying the Taco tax. Congratulations!

Yeah, the difference in a used Frontier (which I ended up getting ) and a used Tacoma (or even Colorado) of the same year/mileage/equipment was around $5-6k around me.  Yes, the interior materials are very basic, but I bought it to do truck things and not be a luxury car!

Good trade. Not sure if that has mileage will be very good for your long commute but these are pretty tough trucks. It makes me sad that Nissan killed off its only interesting SUV.

I traded in my Xterra, it was an 03, for a Prius. The fuel mileage was killing me. The offset in fuel cost i s more than enough to cover  the car payment, insurance, and gas for a month. It is also 9 years newer with 250,000 less miles. I really miss the Xterra, though.

My next SUV will be a full size Montero. I adore these things. If I get rid of the Celica, it wil be on top of my list.

It’s been a good bus. I bought it as a junk hauler and farm hack that I didn’t need to care too much about abusing , but I’ ve been surprised how much I like it as an actual vehicle . Drinks like a fish though.

Yeah, I looked at Sequoias too, just too big and slow for my tastes. They’re solid rigs for sure.

It won’t be good, but assuming it gets 18 highway, it’ll only be $100 more a year than my G, those things drink premium like nobody’s business. This at least has an excuse for being thirsty.

Fuel costs will only be $100 more a year than my G37, due to the G getting 22-23mpg on premium vs a hopefully 17-18 on regular.

I drive mostly city, and the best I could manage was 9mpg. The bes t. Normally was around 6-7. I thougt it odd, but the 2wd one I had barely ever broke 10. On the highway I could do 15-16 though. I regularly get 60 in the Prius. I woul d fill the Xterra every 3 days. I fill the Prius maybe twice a month. I miss the space and higher riding position though. And it was a bit more comfortable to drive on longer trips.

That is a much smaller difference than I expected, probably due to the Xterra taking regular.

I’ve always liked these and they’ve aged very well but that might be because the Frontier still looks similar. I’d be 100% sold on one of these if the rear windshield could slide down like a 4runner. Does Toyota have a patent on that? Because I can’t fathom why no one else does that.

That would be amazing. In this I know it couldn’t , because it has a storage pocket in the hatch door. That is one way the 4Runner is better

I can’t think they do. A few older cars and SUV’s had roll down rear windows. Maybe a cost thing? There is also the first aid kit bump that would complicate things.

As a fellow owner of a Xterra (2015 Pro-4x) welcome to the club! Its a reliable and useful vehicle that gets me everywhere i want to go in the mountains and desert.

Yours looks like its in great shape for hte years/mileage. Happy motoring!

yeah, i have friends with 4runners and i agree..that is hte one thing that i wish the Xterra had. However, my Xterra was thousands cheaper than an equivalent 4runner so thats how i make myself feel better.

It’s in very good shape inside and mechanically and presents well cosmetically, but it’s not perfect which is really nice for an off-road rig that’ll get dings and dents

Welcome to the Xterra gang!!! :D My $500 2002 Xterra (with only 140k miles) is running better every day, though now there’s an engine bay tick I’m trying to chase down. When I brought it home it was so low on power it couldn’t go over 70 without misfiring. Now it can do peel outs on green lights and fuel economy is solidly low -20s.

Hoping it’s a dying bearing in one of the pulleys and not lifters.

Tip: If your Xterra begins burning oil, check the PCV valve first. It’s not too uncommon for them to clog up causing all sorts of fun.

As long as it’s less than a quart every 1000 miles, that’s an improvement over my G haha. I completely forgot that you had an Xterra! Maybe sometime I’ll head back home to Illinois and I’ll go on some of those trails you’ve been to

I’d just think someone else would do it on a luxury SUV or something. It seems like it would be easy to incorporate on full size pickups.
