Dr. Zoidberg remembers.

Sigh. Yeah. I need to get a new motor in my FJ60.

Makes me feel old seeing vehicles of that era on Collector plates.
I remember a time when you could pick up old houses in west Bellevue or even Medina for no more than 200K, and I am not insanely old.
Fun address number font on that house, which contrasts with the mcmodern doors.

Nope! I feel like these have always been expensive.

Thoughts on the 80-series values moving forward?

Yeah all the hipsters here have them. I post quite a few in my dots.

I miss renting a house in Ballard for $800/mo.
( Not $800 each, but $800 total for a small 4 bedroom that wasn’t a shithole.)
Those doors look very mid-century modern to me, and the numbers are groovy, but they don’t really go together . I’ve seen worse, though.

I have qui te few of them, in various states of repair, but it feels like they hit bottom about 10 years ago. An FJ80, in reasonable shape, could be bought for $3K or less. Double that, and more, for a beater today.
I’m surprised, frankly, that it turned around. they are nicer trucks but don’t have the same “serious vibe” the 60s had. JMHO.

I dunno, the economic (and...you know, health) wildcard of Covid may come into play

I remember when I was a kid in Saudi, these were everywhere. Hell, if anyone wanted to leave the base (even just one person) to go shopping, a fleet of five were used to take them to the souq.

I don’t remember.
I do remember seeing them on a semi-regular basis in the Toronto area... but not anymore since most of them have succumbed to rust.

You probably could have bought the house for 150K, too.
The doors look like something from a generic modern office building or techdork house designed by someone who likes being in the office. The pulls especially don’t look vintage. The numbers look like 70s wackiness from that period when everything wasn’t taken seriously.

I scooped up a pristine (135k ) ‘ 97 LX450 off CL a few weeks back for well below market. I’m seeing similar examples for for $12-15k, definitely not what I paid for mine...

I still contend that the LX450 is the pick of the litter. Still rigid front axle. Great interior. Bullet-proof engine. Run forever.
That’s a great buy on a long-term hold.

My Tundra will be eligible in four years. It was not alive during 9/11.

Surprised it is a mere 25 year rule there. 30 years here, which is wacky, as with the mild climate I see cars of that age and older every day going down the road just fine.
But I am sure in 1961 or whenever the rule was created, it made sense.

It’s really just for the plate here. Anything ‘68 or newer needs emissions.

I suppose that’s because of a local/regional climate issue. We had emissions here too, in the larger cities anyway, but it has been phased out now as apparently the grossest offenders have aged out of the fleet.

Yeah, we ge t lots of high pressure systems over our large desert valleys, which are the only places where you have to get emissions done at all (Phoenix and Tucson) . They used to require motorcycles too. My first bike was a ‘78 Honda that I had to get through emissions.

We get temperature inversions here during the winter sometimes, where air quality can be surprisingly bad given the clean rep of this area, with advisories for sensitive groups etc. I’ve had a few older cars that needed emissions - never a problem. Lately, my DDs have been new enough to need it (there was a cut off around 2010, I think), and the old car predates any emissions by several years. Even when it was enforced, there was a 25 year old cutoff, I thi nk - I bet some finicky 70s cars would be really tough.
