They lost. They had an absolute chance to infuse Ferrari character into this car and did no such thing.

4.0 v-12 in todays tech would bring an 11k redline with usable power. Missed opportunity.

Plus, It has a back end traced from a Jag.

Not infusing the Ferrari traditional character was the whole point. EU emissions regulations dictated that things had to change in order to sell something to their clientele that would be more inclined to drive on a regular basis.  It will probably be a more enticing option than the Portofino.  And we haven't seen it on track yet, even though it's a vehicle that isn't intended for track exploits.

Also, change is something that Ferrari desperately needs when it comes to the Scuderia and Motorsports.

I don’t disagree. However with such a hyped legacy on teh covers of magazines shouting about legendary racing wins with v-12's, well, I believe the IS a market and it can still be fit into EU regulations and be driven regularly. Ie: they messed up with the California. They must produce an un-chubby  classy ride for a usable pwoer band yet screamy v-12. The 812 isn’t screamy, not like things could be. Not like Ferrari’s entire legacy is. If they must change, they can change without dispatching their legacy.
