I’ve seen this type of sign posted online before, but never in person.

Apparently one sign wasn't enough warning.

Eh they don’t sell em but you can just get to male plugs and a few inches of wire
Not that I’d ever do that. Without an inline fuse of course

That’s Homer Simpson

Whether it’s to imply you have a tiny brain because you need one, or you because you use one. It’s suggesting anything about them is not smart.
It’s also Homer Simpson

Never in my life have I said, “Clearly, what I need is a male-male adapter. This implies that there are female-female extension cords? What would you use this for?>

I believe that is Max Power, who’s name you want to touch....
Thank you I can’t believe I didn’t notice that

Friend bought a box trailer that you could plug in for shore power. The receptacle on the trailer used to connect to shore power had the standard female wall outlet.
You needed a male-male extension cord to supply power to the trailer.

So you can back-feed circuits with a male-male. Like if you are a cheap redneck and don’t want to install a proper generator transfer panel or interlock. Plug one end in your portable generator, the other into the wall, turn off the main, and you can power your house.
As you can imagine, there are a myriad of potential issues here - if you plug in and start the generator, you now have a live end with exposed prongs. Also, if you forget to open the main and your power comes back on... well... hope the breaker trips and saves your generator. I’ve seen what happens when 500KW and several MW machines fight each other. A 60 ton turbine generator dancing on its mounts is terrifying. Now imagine what the power company’s 100+ MW generator will do to your little 2KW machine!

I have seen one (self-built) used responsibly . A new building was being finished and had been partially wired but had not yet been attached to utility power. The guy doing the work used a heavy-duty extension cord to the main house with a short male-male adapter in to a receptacle so he could plug power tools in to any outlet on that circuit . 2-person build in a remote area, so the risks of one male-male plug adapter was probably less than the risk of having extension cords running all over and constantly swapping plugs , plus convenience because you just use the nearest outlet .

But you must not touch!

I can definitely see where one could be used responsibly. However I’m guessing that the people using these responsibly aren’t asking an Ace Hardware associate to make one for them...

Generally if you haven’t planned your wiring correctly, or several of the situations below. Generally speaking, they’re not a good idea.

Apparently this comes up enough that they have these signs up year round.

Poor planning.

Electricity supply of 240 VAC @ 50Hz would resolve any need for such a sign.
