If this is real, my #OppoHunt item is disqualified for not being an imitation of the real thing. You should follow the exploits of Ally the Altoids Tin on Instagram @teamaltoids addict. The Oppo Hunt is a huge success thus far.
I suspect this Shelby Cobra is a replica. Something about it seems a little off.
Or maybe it was the fact that it is street parked in a busy part of town. The beat up Camry more or less exactly failing to parallel park right next to this work of art pretty much sums up all the reasons I would never leave a real Shelby Cobra on the street. It somehow came within inches of hitting the bright blue race car parked way back in the corner of the spot.
Hmmm, Streetside Classics dealer plate. They weren’t kidding.
I love this giant gaping mouth, eagerly sucking in fresh air to rapidly cool its engine. A more purposeful looking race car you could not hope to see. I wonder what those strange looking hook things on the front are. A place where a bumper used to hang?
That is one small looking interior. And the shift lever seems peculiarly hard to reach from the driver’s position. Who needs ornate dashboards that take up room? Just slap some dials at random in a blank piece of sheet metal. That’ll do.
Still, seeing this car was a lovely respite from a hard few hours of Doordashing. What do you think? Real or replica?

Rule of thumb: if you see a Cobra on the street, it’s a replica.

gotta be a replica, but still gorgeous and I’ll bet it sounds pretty awesome too

Those are quick jacks. Lets you jack the front up like you would a moto.

If you have to ask, replica.
Those hooks were made for the racing version and a bunch got sold for the street and people decided they were the business. They are made so a tow bar can grab onto them yet have minimum weight. The shifter is faithful as the tail of the transmission is so far back it has to have a forward bend.

Couldn’t tell you if it’s a Superformance, Factory Five, or some no-name, but if it’s on the street, it’s not real. (One easy way to tell is gauge placement, choke knobs, and glove box)
But it does look damn nice.

Interesting. And yes, no one drives their real Cobra on the street and parks it without an armed guard to shoo off careless drivers who can’t parallel park.

289, I like

Cobras are 100% replicas until proven otherwise. Especially on the street.

That is handy. Looks effective and effectively unsafe on an incline.

I can’t imagine a real Cobra being left somewhere where a careless driver can parallel parking fail right into it while it is still on paper plates.

This is a nice cobra replica. The flared out sidepipe replicas are the beer belly harley davidson crowds version

Exactly my thoughts.

It is a good replica that is very accurate. Probably a big bucks one.

Fake.

Replica until proven real.
It's Shrodinger's Cobra

It's a replica, but who cares?

Not I, but the owner probably does.

The original was basically a kit car

I got passed by a replicobra like that a few weeks ago... It was L O U D.

You would expect those wide pipes to be. Beautiful so I don't mind.

Yea, no glovebox for Shelby to sign. Dead giveaway that it’s a fake. /j

The answer to the question
“is it a replica” when discussing Cobras is “
yes, it’s a replica”. Always.

I’m a total goober and love the replica Cobras.

Next time I see Marie, I will get a picture. She very nearly daily drives her late husband’s 289 Cobra, true CSX chassis. Everyone mistakes it for a kit because it is a narrow body car. It runs good, looks rough as hell. She is in her late 60's. Awesome woman. According to her, he never drove it , so she is making up for lost “fun”
Reminds me of the older guy that drives his Bugatti Type 29 regularly around the city and takes it to car shows, I’ve got a picture of it somewhere.

I’m sure the owner would rather have an original, but I bet a lot of people who own an original also own a good replica because nobody wants to drive a multi-million dollar car on the street.

Good point. And it's not as though people who own real Cobras own less than 15 others.
