So I called my friend at the shop and had a talk. I guess we will hold off on the heater etc.. and focus on just getting the rest done. He is concerned about the old brake system and it’s hard to get drums that aren’t worn out. So I guess we will bite the bullet and just do it right and not have to swap the brakes later. M Series Rebuild has an amazing kit that costs a bit more but you don’t have to ship them hubs and all that. All the other kits require you to ship you hubs to a machinist etc.., the kit is about $300 more than others but as you can see it is very nice and will save a couple weeks shipping things around the country. I doubt it all fits in flat rate boxes so it will be half of the difference at least I’m sure.
And since we are doing that I will get an E Stopp kit and just be able to hit the button for the e brake, it is also a theft deterrent system, not that many people would climb in an M37 and try to make off with it, if they can even use a manual this one will not be the easiest to try on! I’ll just paint the button green, there are so many things on the dash I doubt you could tell something was added.

Every time you describe the amount of work you’re putting into this, I get a little less enthusiastic about grabbing an antique of my own. But, this one just looks so appealing.

It’s about $300 more than the other kits but I would wager we would spend half that at least in shipping to get the bits to the machinist they want you to use. It’s worth skipping the headache.

Well those are at least small and easy to work on alone. Well we haven’t done a lot of work lately haha! We did painting and some body work and the power steering is a luxury you don’t need on a little Jeep. We have to skip the combat wheels, but at least I have them for later.

What wheels will it have then?

Just the normal military wheels on it now, it will take time and money to restore the co mbat wheels. I want to get this thing registered and on the road. In Korea they had a huge surplus of WWII Dodge combat wheels, sort of like beadlock rock rings, they originally had a run flat ring inside the tire as well but they were a metal part and most are rusted away and there are no replicas. But as a wheel they are ok if you can find good ones, I had three and finally found a four th.

Yeah that could be interesting haha. It will mainly do beach and boat duty, top off rides in the warmer months. I’m not going to use the hard top, not sure what I’ll do with it. They are rare so I hope it will fit in my storage, maybe I can hoist it up with pulleys .
