I finally finished some repair work and got my cheap gov deals kayaks registered awhile back. I’ve been out solo to give them a shakedown cruise and a few times to get an idea of what the heck I’m doing.
Today was a nice coolish day so it was time to bring out the boy.

Nice! I haven’t been out in my canoe once this year. I really need to fix that.

Is that the Stillwater? Surprised it’s still so high.

I took a kayak out on a lake Friday. Cheap-ish Pelican ride-in in bright xbox green I got in March, but no real complaints with it other than front stowage being a stretch to reach while in it.

I bought these through a government auction this January. I had to fix the seat in one and reinforce a couple patches in both of them. They are scratched to hell and back too.
I only gave a bit under $130 for the pair and have less than $15 in the fixed.

No, this was his first time out so we stuck to the Eastwood Metropark lagoon.

Oooh, makes sense. Stillwater is pretty fun . I’ve drifted down it for an afternoon or two before. Last summer I went in kayaks with some friends. It was right after the really big rain we’d had and most of the liveries were closed for high water, but one of them was open and the river still wasn’t very fast at all.

Way to go! That looks like a ton of fun.
I love kayaking and recently my wife has begun to join me and likes it too. It’s a great hobby to get outdoors and get some exercise in.

We have tried some new kinds of kayaking since we moved to the mainland, I had always been out in the ocean and a little bit of calm river kayaking to reach some hiking trailheads. Northern California is great, we have estuaries with lots of wildlife and some rivers by the coast. We can’t use our boat in these rivers so we rented them, I much prefer the Hobie mirage drive now that I have tried it.

I’ve gone down the Stillwater and Mad Rivers in rented yaks before. I’m trying to see if a buddy wants to meet up soon to go down the Mad River.

This was my son’s first outing other than a few times in a pool at a couple of outdoor vendor events.
I’ve done some kayaking around islands in Lake Eerie and a few guided river float trips before getting these kayaks over the winter.
