Yea, I know that’s a cheaper option but some people prefer to just buy the real thing. Much like buying a movie verse torrenting it.

Ooo. Thanks, I’ll have to check that out.

How many times do I need to buy these games though?

Lol...if you have the original do you need this? I never had an SNES, so I decided to order it. I did have an NES with a lot of games that I sold for like $20 when I was a kid. I still beat myself up about that.

E xactly.
I put together a raspberryPi that covers Atari through SNES, Sega and Neo Geo, with limited N64 capabilit y. For like $60.
My 14 y.o. has been blasting through ChronoTrigger for the last week. It takes me back..... and I owned all of these games, so I've paid for the damn access already.

I don’t need it I have the emulator which takes up less space.

Not sure how the emulators work completely since I’ve never used one. Do you still need to buy games with those? I guess I was under the impression the emulators all used illegally downloaded games.

I’m not 100% on the legality here but if you own the cartridge then you can have the rom like you can rip mp3s from a CD.

Yea, I think the “I’m just downloading a game/movie I already own” thing really hasn’t been legally settled or brought through the courts yet.

Well we did for music an yways. I’m personally not terribly concerned about Nintendo coming after me or that I’m taking money out of their pocket for playing chrono trigger on my tv from my computer .

Teeeeeeeeeechnically it’s possible to dump a copy of a cartridge (a.k.a. ROM) you own with some specialized hardware and software, but pretty much everyone just goes out and downloads a copy that someone else made. Both options are legally murky at best.

Yea, that’s my understanding too. Though the fact that no major publisher has brought such a suit by now tells me they think they could lose that fight and it would no longer be legally murky to download a copy of something you already own.

The NES Classic and SNES Classic are when I finally put my foot down and said no more cashing in strictly on nostalgia. I mean, the SNES Classic at least had StarFox 2, but that’s about it.
Besides that, I still have the original consoles, a Switch, and at least 5 RPi boards scattered around my home that I can immediately recall.

I wish I still had my consoles but I was a dumb kid and sold them cheap to get the next one.

When I was in college, I got into repairing old busted consoles and computers . Most old NES boxes could be fixed with a pair of 20 cent plastic retaining clips. From there, it just became a collection, getting my hands on as many different consoles and games as I could, including a few arcade cabinets. It eventually got to the point where I was exchanging very little money, just bartering for stuff I wanted with random rare stuff I had. It allowed me to keep it as a hobby I was passionate about as opposed to one I sank my entire paycheck into every two weeks (like some of my project cars).
Then I sold it all almost nine years ago to finance my move to California (as well as all new furniture when I got here and a couple months of rent) . I hung onto an NES, SNES, Dreamcast, and Xbox 360, as well as my favorite games from each system.
Part of me still sort of regrets selling some of the stuff that I will in all likelihood never see again (at least for anything resembling a reasonable price) . But on the flip side, it was very liberating to be able to move clear across the country with everything I owned in a Nissan Cube.
