I haven’t committed yet to participating !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , but I thought I’d contribute by taking one line item and converting it to a map for y’all. Plus it gives me some ideas for places I’d like to visit when the world is saner and the Jeep is stabler.
This map was created by taking everything from the links supplied for #OpposLoveExploring (minus a few that weren’t particularly localized).
I hope everyone has safe fun, and thanks to Dusty for all the hard work .

I don’t feel like trying to find it in Street View right now, but in north Greenville, SC along White Horse Road, there is an ancient Officer Big Mac kiddie jail outside a business.
One of these:
The one in question is a little dilapidated, but recognizable, and I *think* satisfies at least one item on the list.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen one, or even knew those existed.

Wait, really?
![]() 08/05/2020 at 09:24 |

Yeah. Or at least, it was there last time I made a WNC/Atlanta drive.

Thanks, I didn't see that street art one in Detroit on the site.

Now I know why they call it the best coast. And poor Iowa!
Fort unately, the only ones really near me without a major road trip are the non localized ones. But it did get me eager to head out on more oppo hunts. Thank you.

Any idea which one it would’ve been at? Also when was that, back in college?
![]() 08/05/2020 at 09:31 |

I haven’t seen one of those since I was a kid!
![]() 08/05/2020 at 09:31 |

No, this would have been this past winter, I think.
I do remember it’s on the east side of the road, near the north corner of the building.

Oh, it wasn’t outside a McDonalds, that would make sense why I couldn’t find it. If I’m ever over there, maybe I’ll look for it.

We spent part of a day at White Sands way back in 2013. We bought some sleds and did the sledding thing, and a small thunderstorm passed by while we were there. Very few other people. It was an absolutely stunning place.

Pretty sure it was the Heidelberg project. I went through the list yesterday.

Yeah, of the three (?) Micky D’s you pass on the way between Traveller’s Rest and I-185, it’s not at any of them. It’s at an older almost strip mall style building, which might have been a McD decades ago.
I have a really vague fragmentary memory of maybe having played in one of these in the late ‘80s at a very early age.
![]() 08/05/2020 at 09:41 |

Ok that makes sense then.
![]() 08/05/2020 at 09:43 |

The nearest one is a full day trip for me.
![]() 08/05/2020 at 09:47 |

Yeah, don’t take that pin as gospel; I didn’t know where to look for the Heidelberg project on the map and by that point I was pretty much ready to move on.

Ditto. We generally li ve in the wrong part of the country.
![]() 08/05/2020 at 09:52 |

I mean, I probably will still try

Oklahoma does have beautiful places, just so we’re clear. LOL

Honestly I’m underwhelmed by the ones near me.
I am still considering doing an unsanctioned Oppo hunt though, I missed the sign up deadline but was immediately thinking of locations as soon as I saw D usty’s list.

No problem, I’ve been there before.
Thanks again
![]() 08/05/2020 at 10:01 |

The deadline is technically the last day of the hunt so there’s plenty of time.
![]() 08/05/2020 at 10:06 |

There are no beautiful places in Montana. Can confirm.

You my friend are a saint. Lots of day trips in Florida... but I won’t get out of the car and breath the COVID filled air.
![]() 08/05/2020 at 18:51 |

Hopefully it’s not quite that bad.
![]() 08/05/2020 at 19:43 |

I will 100% allow this for “chain mascots” and may even allow it for a playplace
![]() 08/05/2020 at 19:44 |
|
You can still join! I’ve had about a half dozen join since the list went up. As long as it’s before the end of the hunt we good.

Pssssssssh. Not even three hours

Stef and I went to White Sands in... 2017? Such an amazing place. We stayed for the sunset and I felt like we were on Tatooine.
![]() 08/05/2020 at 19:54 |

So 6 total plus all the slporin I’d do there
![]() 08/05/2020 at 19:54 |

Both coasts have a ton on the map. Everyone in the middle is kinda hosed by comparison.
![]() 08/05/2020 at 20:09 |

I may do so...
![]() 08/05/2020 at 21:21 |

Yup. I'm surprised the Canadians have done as well as they have too. Lots of midwesterners have been competetive but those final very specific challenges will be difficult for them.
![]() 08/06/2020 at 09:36 |

It’s not like you see these every day, am I right?
![]() 08/06/2020 at 14:42 |

Not since I was like eight
![]() 08/08/2020 at 11:43 |

And not a single pin point in Nebraska or Iowa? How strange.
![]() 08/08/2020 at 11:48 |

I’ve ridden across Iowa (RAGBRAI). Not strange at all .

Yeah, I grew up out there. I remember, as a child, the quizzical “sense of WTF?!?” when Iowa’s Long-Awaited Viewmaster reel came out... and it had TWO pictures of the Little Brown Church in the Vale in the very limited number of frames. It definitely articulated the problem.
This is “as good as it gets” in Iowa...
