A T-37 Tweet meets an ignominious end at Sheppard AFB back in 2011.

The T-37 first flew in 1954 and served as the Air Force’s primary jet trainer for more than 50 years. And while the Tweet wasn’t the fastest jet by any stretch, it may well have been one of the loudest. Cessna also developed a ground attack variant in the A-37 Dragonfly. A total of 1,269 T-37s were built, and the type was retired in 2009.

This aircraft, built in 1958, hadn’t flown in about 10 years, but it sure looked nice, and might have been welcome in a small museum somewhere. It’s a shame it was sent to the crusher.

I’m thinking of trying to do a drive/hike to a Lockheed T-33 (Silver Star) that crashed on a mountain near here.  Hopefully I get to!

Some, just from googling. T he wreckage is still there. It was a training flight, pilots Lt. Norman Ogden and Lt. Donald Clark. The plane went down due to unknown cause shortly after takeoff and crashed on a mountain

They crashed the day after JFK was shot

I’ll hazard a guess it’s this one but I can’t find much more info.

ETA: Guess it wasn’t. There’s more crashes up in that area than I would have suspected.

It’s more focused on the Western US, but check out Waypoints West for interesting wreck sites & other stuff. I think they found some wreckage from the Battle of Palmdale. It’s a subscription site, but there may be some uploaded stuff from users closer to you.
