I’m sorry; I’m slightly obsessed...
Look at how low this thing is!
No side mirrors, fwiw - uses cameras/dedicated screens.

To be fair, Catchpole is a pretty tall dude.

As is Murray.

Yeah, I read it and was impressed. Brad did a very nice job.
The conversation between Murray and
Harry Metcalfe has been my favorite so far.

Its great that he doesn’ t care about the 0-60 time and thats its a manual. Shocked its lighter then a miata.
looking forward to driving/review videos.

He’s just so focused on the actual experience, and actually takes into account the everyday usability of a car like this
. I love it.
He thinks the same as a Miata engineer, but has an unlimited budget. The Lotus Elan was used as the design benchmark for the original Miata; Murray has one and drives it regularly: “ Among old cars, the (original) Lotus Elan is the ultimate, better than the F1. We tried to get its delicious steering feel in the F1 but we just missed it.”
Will be many months of waiting, sadly!

I thought the camera thing wasn’t ever legal? at least in the US which means...sad panda is sad. Also I need a picture of the manual!

Holy fuck Catchpole and Murray on the T.50? I saw this vid show up but god. I need, need to watch this.

Wonder if it won’t make it stateside due to regs. Not sure. Regardless, they will only sell 100, so it might as well exist on Mars.
I’m just glad it exists!

I think the one with Murray & Harry Metcalfe is even better.

What .
I love Catchpole, but I love Metcalfe even more . You’re telling me both of these videos exist?
This is a big day for me.

I’m not going to admit to how many hours I spent poring over every detail about this car today.

Finally watched the extended carfection walk-around. This car makes me think I really don’t need 2 kidneys. :o

He’s a bit of a whinger isn’t he, Mr Murray? But he’s so good at stuff, he definitely gets a pass. Hard to say he’s wrong

I guess in order to make something truly great, you have to be able to recognize (and correct)
what’s not great.

Definitely. I think people don’t respond well to such an attitude.

See:
Steve Jobs
a long list of movie directors & design leads
plenty of other CEOs
I think in these long-form interviews, Murray knows it’s kind of an “inside baseball” chat with another industry bloke, and most viewers willing to watch the whole thing get it, too.
Murray’s no fan of the McLaren P1:

I think you’re right about all of it. It’s a weird world we’re in, seems like every manufacturer is adding this and that in the name of performance and “what customers want”. But somehow none of this aligns with Murray’s goals, which seem to resonate so well with enthusiasts. One example is Lamborghini harping on about weight years ago with the Sesto Elemento, but what have they done since? Big, heavy cars.

I
have a hankering to do one more supercar, and I wouldn’t have unless
these one-and-a-half-tonne hybrid monsters hadn’t come out. I would have
left it with the F1. But now there’s a point to be proven: that you can
still do a great driver’s car with an internal combustion engine and
pure engineering.
Crazy that it was 6 years ago and now it’s finally happening. He has a good point about them being technical exercises - they’re fast and impressive but you can’t throw them around like you can other “lesser” cars. In some ways they’re less drivers cars.

Last night I watched every Drivetribe/Chris Harris et al videos with Murray talking around the car.
What a fucking dream. I think my favorite parts were Murray talking about his disappointments with the F1.

A true designer. Always seeing ways to improve things, even what others see as his
masterwork.
One of the lines that was striking: “a gearshift’s a gearshift”. He is just all about function over style. It just has to be light and feel good and work perfectly - if it looks great after that, fine.
Man, I wish he could get some investors on board to see what he’d be capable of in the $50-100k range (there’s
the Rocket, but I mean a simple, small
two-seat coupe).

He drove the wheels off a Smart Roadster for years-- I loved the Roadster from the first time I saw it. Something in that vein from him would be amazing.

Yeah, it’s great.
His car collection tells you everything you need to know about what he finds important in an automobile.
Was impressed with how much credit he gives the Alpine as something of
a benchmark for the T.50.

Same. Still haven’t seen one in person... I never liked the overtly-retro looks, but I love the car, if that makes sense.
