For those clueless about EVs. The highest capacity EV currently on the market is the Tesla Model S with a 100 kWh (kilowatt hour) battery and 400 miles EPA range. So a full charge would be $15.90 ( Assuming no initial connection fee etc) .
Co mpare that to the Hummer EV which will have up to a 200 kWh battery. Welcome to the age of electron guzzlers.

NP?

Yeah, the range cost is the better comparison. 1 gal of gas is rarely equivalent to 1 kWh, unless your car is a hybrid
.

Depends on where you are. That’s in Denver where the average electricity cost is 11 cents per kWh. So i guess its an ok price for public charging.

I wonder... Will a gallon of gas AND a kWh both be ridiculously cheaper in Texas in the future? Because $2.49/gallon of REGULAR unleaded?! I filled up my wife’s Lexus at that price today, but it was Supreme gas, at an interstate gas station.

Hmm.
Are people in Oregon and New Jersey barred from self-charging their cars?
![]() 08/02/2020 at 20:56 |

Maybe. Doesn't Texas have extensive wind power generation to go with all the hydrocarbons and hydrocarbon processing?
![]() 08/02/2020 at 20:57 |

Yup. AND our own electric grid. I passed by two solar farms today between San Antonio and Houston (West and South Texas have huge wind farms, also).

CP, I pay 9 cents Canadian a kWh (6.7 cents USD).

Gotta have a high school dropout come round your house every night to plug it in...

Is that for generation AND transmission?

Why the heck can’t we get rid of the 9/10th nonsense?!
![]() 08/02/2020 at 21:10 |

Yeah, I forgot about the standalone power grid. Probably a lot of good
untapped solar and wind potential in Texas too, so my money would be on yes, both will be cheap in Texas in the future..

When I am world emperor, it’s definitely on my list of stupid shit that will be banned.

Just wait ‘till some New Jersey politician’s daughter electrocutes herself, that law w ill come* .
*there’s an urban legend that the ban on self-serve gasoline pumps is because a politician’s daughter set herself on fire by smoking while refueling. I n reality, it was because when self-service gasoline pumps came out in the late 1940s, owners of older, prewar service stations that couldn’t afford to upgrade complained that the newer stations put them at a competitive disadvantage, and so pressured the legislature to mandate that all stations employ attendants regardless of whether their pumps were designed for self service or not.

Don’t forget to get rid of pennies and nickels.

That's end price if I had an electric car

Finally, America is dispensing fuel in metric units.

I’m intrigued. I didn’t realize Canadian electricity was so cheap; in the US my generation charge is about 6.5-7.5 cents KWH while transmission is roughly another 5-6 cents.

My Bonnie leaned over the gas tank
But nothing could she see
She lit up a match to assist her
Oh bring back my Bonnie to me...

That’s what surprised me as well. Don’t they have some kind of hogshead freedom unit for kW?
![]() 08/02/2020 at 23:32 |

1 H orsepower = 0.746 kW
![]() 08/02/2020 at 23:54 |

And call it 0.9 instead?
![]() 08/03/2020 at 04:57 |

So 1 kWh = 1.34 HPh?
I hope ‘hour’ is not dismissed by the freedom unit crowd, as it’s rather internationally accepted.

How many baby seals are killed in the process of illuminating the extra numbers on every goddamn gas price sign. It is such nonsense.

Even in Alberta, it's cheap. I think we pay $0.08/kWh. Or maybe it was $0.06. Gotta put all that natural gas to use somehow.
