Been a long time since I last saw a Maybach in the wild. Just for the halibut, I looked up used ones for sale. Holy Ratballs.. Mid-aught 62s like this one are selling for over $100k, although the 57s can be had fairly cheap.

I hade a folder or note book with a Maybach on it in 7th or 8th grade. I think the look of them has not aged well.

Ooof straight out a hip hop video and straight into the nursing home. I guess these looked good new?

I guess the older ones weren’t hugely successful, but MB did bring it back so maybe they’re doing better now .

Just as an options package on a normal S-Class though?

Interestingly, I think the S- classes still look good though.

Nyet . The current Maybach is built on a stretched S-class chassis.

Like a W220 with a dash of Daewoo aesthetics and a 500% price adjustment.
To be fair, the 62 is a really rare car now and eventually will be a weird collectible/special interest car. A few years ago, the local Bentley dealer had a 57 sitting on the used lot. Nice low mileage car, they wanted something like 75K for it, I think.

Er... an options package on a normal S-Class though?
Like an A8L Limo edition is just a stretched D4 or D5 chassis...
Maybach was a bespoke platform before. Now it’s an S-Klasse mit benefits.

Have a nice weekend

220 grand and no fancy woodwork to be found? Pffft, I'll have the Rolls thank you very much.

That is a very cool ordinary looking interior for that price tag.

Well, not a normal S-class because those don’t have the longer wheelbase of the Maybach whereas the A8 had a stretchy version with the A8L.
I’m p retty sure Maybach owners say tomah to .

Speaking of collectible, the 62 La ndaulet was even weirder. They sold for $1.35 million new.
Yikes.

I had one for a week back in 2018 to review. Not a lot of wood iirc, but the back seat experience was worth the $180k if you had the dough. And a driver.

Yeah, we’re splitting hairs. What was “cool” (if wildly expensive) about the first-gen was that they’d done a specific EVERYTHING (other than some switchgear and drivetrain sharing) unique to the Maybach line. Bespoke platform and the price showed it.
Most people viewing, especially those that know the platform, the new one will kind of assume it’s “a fancy S-Class”. That’s the genesis at least.
Of course, I kinda dig the Phaeton, at least the US one, because they didn’t leverage the AUDI D3 platform but instead used the Bentley. Plus I love the trunk lid hinges. I’d buy one just for those hinges, frankly.

No doubt, the first cars were pretty special. Even moreso for the 62 Landaulet @ $ 1.35m new.
Phaeton was a solid effort from Vee Dub; biggest issue with that car was the 5,000lb+ curb weight. If they’d used the A8 platform it’d have been 1,000lb lighter.

Might be the same attraction some have to a W100 600 (but perhaps with less presence and style). Not going to get that MSRP back though lol.

Still expensive and still 10x as much to maintain and repair. No exaggeration. 62's are sweet inside though.

Can’t even imagine the kind of gee-whiz shit MB put in that car. I bet ABC is probably just the start.

ABC is just a cute option that some poors have.

They have something better than ABC? Do tell.

Lol no, not on that generation anyways. I just meant that ABC is normally one of the options that's super expensive and problematic, but other Maybach stuff makes it look like chump change.
