So I looked at a second boat today this one runs! It’s also a lot nicer than the first one I looked at. It’s a fair bit wider, it has a flat floor, and Altho they are the same overall length the bow is 2 feet shorter so it has a lot more “interior” space. Also has a 40hp engine vs the 25 on the first one. And the lower unit is fully functional on this one! Oh it has electric start And an alternator too! Needs a battery and fuel tank tho. The owner wanted to keep them for his knee boat. He bought a 7 passenger boat because he has 3 kids were getting too big to squeeze into this one.
I paid a whopping 400 bucks for this little gal. Say hello to Azula.
I’ll get batter pics tomorrow

Congrats on the boat!
My cousin had a similar one a long time ago. He used to like to sit up on the side while driving, looking cool for the girlies on the lake. One day, while turning, he fell off the side, and the boat circled him. Someone from the volunteer fire department was nearby, and once the circling boat was close enough, he jumped into the moving boat from a dock and shut it down. It was quite the scene.

Dude! That is a fine lookin’ boat. Decent looking trailer, too. 1 st thing is to check the wheel bearings and get them right. The rest will follow. Salt or fresh water?

Fresh water. No salt in a 1000 miles.

Ha! Showing off for a girl is always a good way to end up embarrassing yourself.

I predict it will be a hoot. What is it and what is the engine?

I’m a little envious. You can do anything with that boat. Fish, tow, just beach and picnic, take along the whole family . What motor is on it? I don’t recognize it.

This is the first of the two best days of a boat owner’s life, which are:
1. The day you buy it.
2. The day you sell it.

3. The day you use it instead of spending money or working on it.

It’s a Johnson.

That’s a size able upgrade from the first one. Congratulations and enjoy!

If you own a boat you realize quickly that this isn’t true. I’ve had mine for 9 years and it’s still super fun.

Well bought. It looks well maintained. Always check to make sure the water pump works when you start it.

Electric conversion!

I’m going to have to learn a lot about boat maintenance and how they work. Like I’d always wondered why the outboard pees a little water out the side. Now I know it’s to just where the cooling water exits.
I’m genuinely excited to for the learning part tho.

It really is. I liked the smaller size of the first one. It was the same length, but shallower, and narrower. Sit this one will be a WAY better family boat with room to fish out of and carry food, tackel and supplies.

Yep, when they aren’t peeing, they run about 6 minutes longer, and the next thing you find is they bog down and the paint on the head is all burned and you can’t get it to start.
I would ask the prior owner how old the water pump impeller is and if he changed it. The reason to ask is that I believe most of them are vane type impellers with flexible plastic/rubber vanes. They don’t last forever and will have the vanes break off. Changing them every 10 or so years prevents problems. If it has never been changed, then change it.

Also, you will want to make sure that you keep it full of lower end oil as well as topping it off to make sure its clean and water isn’t diluting it. That’s about all I know about outboards.

PS - You will have at least $400 worth of fun with it!

So I’m learning a lot of things today!
For one this motor has no “tell tale” so it won’t pee. It spits it’s coolant water out of the exhaust, and the standard flushing muffs won’t work on it because the water inlet is on the leasing edge of the outboard, not the side.
I did get the engine running this afternoon. That was awesome. But didn’t run it for more than 30 seconds because I thought the waterpump could be broken since it wasn’t pumping any out. But I found an old boat forum post about these motors and found out to test them you have to put the outboard in a barrel and fully submerge the water inlet.
I’m so released tho to know that it runs and engages forward and reverse!
One small bummer is that the electric start only works when it feels like it. Like less than hang the time. At first I thought it was totally in-op but Have to hold the key in the Start position for 5 seconds or so before it’ll go.

When the transom rotted out on my in-laws’ bowrider they bought a very similar boat to this from the local marina and had them swap their still-good outbound onto it.
Unlike this attractive specimen it had light a
green hull with a somewhat weathered
dark green deck - we immediately christened it the flying avocado...

Lol Nice. My wife’s Grandpa has a little boat for sale that I considered buying. But it’s in about the same condition mechanically, but 1 it’s just an aluminum fishing boat with a captains chair, not a sporty looking runabout, and 2 it’s that same ugly two tone green. I wanted to buy a boat my wife would like, when she saw this one her first words were “aww it’s so cute!”
