I saw a blue Scoob with a wang and gold wheels and though, “hey cool.” And then I saw that it was a coupe. A COUPE! A TWO DOOR BLUE ROCKETSHIP OF AN IMPREZA!

Sure, it’s no 22B, but it clearly wants to be one. I can’t remember the last time I saw a two door.

Kinja'd!!!

These just have the absolute best proportions. They really are smaller than you expect. And those wheels are just perfect.

Side note: why on earth are the leaves laying on the floor in all their fall splendor? **checks calendar** Yup, still July. Get out of here leaves, you’re drunk.

Kinja'd!!!

That is one wing that isn’t compensating for anything.

I have to imagine that the blue Veloster parked next to it belongs to the same person for reasons that will become apparent soon.

Kinja'd!!!

Yes, that is a gutted interior with a beach chair in place of a seat. It also seems to me this was originally painted a much brighter shade of blue. I didn’t know redneck and two door Impreza could go together but here we are.

Kinja'd!!!

Bonus color matched RS3!

Audi hasn't made RS2 since 1995, correct?

Other than the 22b sti, we never got the coupe here

Ugh. Those 2 doors go for insane money because everyone, including me wants to wrx/sti swap them. My buddy I bought my wrx from has one sitting around but it’s probably rusted to hell at this point.

I’ve not seen a 2-door in a long time either; around here they all rusted into oblivion by about 2006. I agree though, they’re probably the best looking subaru, period.

This could have had some rust but there wasn’t any bubbling that I saw. It does seem to have a respray so maybe. . .

This coupe was in remarkably good shape. You can see for yourself the immaculate floors in that photo.

This is the first coupe I really remember seeing. They are very rare.

It looks super nice, I would pay decent money for it. Still not the asking prices I see that are around WRX money. But decent

I mean, so few were made and so much fewer are left that it would be hard to find a half decent once that isn’t either perfect or a total basket case for sale anywhere. This is the nice but not so nice it is attracting super wealthy buyers territory, a rare middle ground.

I definitely forget that they are fairly old now and most have rusted to the ground. I remember seeing them around fairly regularly.

I don't remember the two doors ever being a presence on the streets.

My mom had one and I was going to buy it when she was done with it. Even with the 2.5 NA it was peppy and very fun to drive. It felt much more rally car than my 2002 Impreza. Anyway she crashed it on icy roads and that was that.

Well, that explains where they all went off to. They were all sold in snow y climates where rust are them whole. Subarus don’t make as much sense down south, at least they didn’t until their aesthetic became popular. Two doors are absurdly rare, even more so than the already scarce two doors.

Which makes them incredibly rare, much rarer than the states. I do check every one I see to count the doors. I’ve seen a handful of 2 doors, I think there was 1 or 2 22Bs in there and a handful of 2 door grey market imports.

These OG 2 door impreza’s are one of the best looking 2 door economy cars ever made. Certainly the best looking Subaru’s ever made. The XT gets a special shout- out though as well as the GR STI (3rd gen hatchback STI) .

Yes, but they don't have the proportions to match this one. It was really to die for.

Impreza coupe, and the 2.5RS up-spec version were sold in the US... just not the WRX and the highly optimized 22B.

I quite like them... but the roofline being higher at the back than the front, rather than just flat, always seemed slightly odd... but even moreso on the sedan... probably a factor of being compatible with the 5-door unibody variant.

Speaking of... my favorite was always the custom fab project that combined coupe doors and quarter windows, with the back of a hatchback 5-door, and a 22B replica bodykit, and a turbocharged drivetrain.

Kinja'd!!!

Subaru would actually get my business back after more than a decade of disappointment, if they built anything even remotely this interesting.

This one was the 2.5RS.

I never noticed the roofline thing, but the coupes have to be the best proportioned Subaru ever made. Possibly the best looking too. They are just fantastic.

That 5 door shooting brake is just mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

There is all this talk about crossover coupes that have a non usab le second row with doors. I think making a true shooting   brake out of an outback could work.

The roof line was to fit “normal” people in the back, when I had my coupe I could fit comfortable in the back, I am 6'4 with my favorite heels. And did you know, the Impreza coupe/ sedan/wagon have the same wheel base? they are almost the exact same size, coupe just has longer doors and appears smaller, but side by side, the bumper overhangs where the only real difference. I got rid of it from the unwan ted attention. I liked the gas mileage and comfort . The “ boys” liked a 6' blonde in a GC coupe with a stick and some of the jokes and comments where quite rude and off putting .

I’ve kind of been partial to the BL/BP generation (‘05-09 US market) Legacy and Outback.

Kinja'd!!!

(and one of the only times you could get a lifted Outback Sedan with a flat-6... but nobody seemed interested, and they cancelled it after ‘06. )

And SVX has to be the best looking, best proportioned Subaru coupe.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Then again, I owned both, so I could be showing my bias. (I had a red Legacy 2.5GT sedan, not an Outback 3.0R, but I had the outback picture handy...)

Kinja'd!!!

BTW... in 2013, Subaru showed the Cross Sport concept. Although it was not AWD, since it was based on BRZ, rather than Impreza, it looked promising, and I’m pretty sure they could have put that bodywork on Crosstrek underpinnings with WRX or STI drivetrain if they wanted to.

But that was just one of many in a series of Subaru concept cars, including the WRX and STI concepts, and various VIZIV generations  that bait-and-switched the enthusiast base... and I began to resent them for it...

‘ Oh, look what we could do... but we won’t. Ever.’

I’ll bet that was impressive, and that last bit is truly unfortunate.

Unimpressive people of every kind do stupid, mindless, or even specifically hurtful things when intimidated by anyone who does make more of a positive impression . Usually false bravado from of a place of their inherent insecurity.

Actually, they seem to do that to nearly everyone, rather than seeing people for who they are. Seems to be a lot of that going around... more virulent than an epidemic, and masks can’t help stupidity.

The nice thing about Subarus, that I wish they would take more advantage of, is that they are built kind of like Legos... Wheelbase, track width, and drivetrain layout is quite modular... and lends itself to parts sharing and swappability.

For a while, I really wanted a WRX STI-swapped SH-generation Forester... because the Impreza/WRX/STI drivetrain fits directly into the Forester unibody with the right combination of parts. An WRX Crosstrek would be similarly do-able I think.

I get you, but daaaaaang that is one good looking shooting brake. I think Subaru could really pill off something unique with that, though these aren’t the times to introduce a less practical version of a status symbol car.

And the SVX might just barely edge out the Impreza coupe, but both are drop dead gorgeous. Weird thing a out the wheelbase.
