As it turns out, I do like the 4Runner, I just don’t like paying for it. Not much longer, in the grand scheme of things, and the title will no longer reside with a bank. Calling it a project is a bit of a stretch, but I do want to keep making it more functional for my family.
The nice to have list is: Front window tint (the 4Runner is the first vehicle in a long time I haven’t tinted, not sure why), a stone/bug guard for the hood, a cargo liner for the rear, and a new skid plate. Yes, I know I’ve mentioned these in the past, the skid plate I know I’ll get before the next oil change. It’s not THAT bad having to remove the skid and filler plate to get to the oil filter, but it is annoying. Most aftermarket skids resolve that. My son helped with the oil change this weekend, and he very much wanted to learn what everything was for and what we were doing. The dog helped too, by crawling under the 4Runner with us and licking our faces, because why else would we lay on the ground?
Speaking of the dog, the seizures are ramping up again. After moving to Keppra, we were good for about 4 months, and the seizures have returned and are starting to increase in frequency. Sigh. I can handle it ok, but my wife is an emotional wreck every time it happens. Time to call the vet and see what’s next. While I can handle it ok, once the seizures get to daily status, you have to wonder what the quality of life is for the poor guy. I’m sure phenobarbital is the next likely prescription.
My son has also asked about the Mustang, he’s very excited to have it as a pool car, serving the same purpose as the Cougar (maybe I should just get a golf cart instead ). He wants to start working on it, so I need to start carving out some time, and ordering some more parts here and there. I need to foster that interest he’s showing!

Glad it’s a keeper (for now).
Sorry to hear about the pup...
Yes! I’m hoping to learn more with my son as he approaches driving age.

That’s high quality parenting right there brother.

Why do they have two different state plates?
Poor pup! Definitely up the meds!

I haven’t taken the old plates off of the Mustang yet. Last titled/registered in South Dakota.

Oil changes generally buy a car another few months with me. Check back this time next year. Ha.

You would think after you drove one car into a pool, you wouldn’t do it again. Why exactly do you want it submerged?
Sorry to hear about the dog.

Woah Colorado has a very nice plate design.

He likes to learn how things work. He’s 10, I had to help him loosen the skid plate bolts on the 4Runner...he’s about to learn a different kind of “stuck” on a 50+ year old car!

When you grow up jumping bikes off a dock into the river, the next logical step is pony cars in a pool.

We have a wide variety of plate designs . My wife’s vehicle rocks the plain green/white mountain plates. I made a donation to some parks fund and that qualified me for the state park plates.

Here you go again! If you don’t want two “project cars” (LOL!), then you’ll just have to be less picky ;)
Enjoy wrenching with the boy!

Check out the ARB skid plate set. If you’re not rock crawling it’s enough, without adding too much weight

At least with the 4Runner, it’s more what I call “functional improvements”. With the Mustang, I just need to get off my ass and start working.

Both those are a good looking design. I like the standard Georgia Peach plate, even if it is a little busy, but there is like one other option that isn’t a college theme.

Obvs. Do ponies float?

I have a just turned 11 year old who is in about the same spot, I’m trying to encourage his interest as much as I can with my own limited skills. I figure I’m going to have to get through a few years of things being disassembled and/or destroyed during attempted repairs, paying for an engineering degree, and then I’ll never pay for any kind of work being done again.

I’m only kept at bay by lack of space. I think my wife might have a hard limit of four, so I could squeeze in one more, I s’pose.

Gosh, I love early Mustangs.
