Guy with the W116 and W123s might have more to worry about than junk mail.

Definitely. Such a weird car to see driving around. So old.

Well kinda old to just see zooming around the streets but not all that old in the grand scheme of interesting cars you might notice.

True enough. I guess it’s all relative. Far older than most cars you see, old for a Japanese car and especially old for a Skyline - most of those you see are R33/R32. And even those are 2-3 decades old!
But modern compared to a car from the 60s. And those are around.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I can’t speak for you down in Oz but here those R32s have been legal to import for only a few years and I’ve seen one (1) R32 and that was a four door. The first R33 turned 25 this year.

Haha, yep. It’s very different in the rest of the world. I’ve written before about how most of the Skylines here are broken, badly maintained, ruined with mods. You do see nice well-kept GT-Rs, but not usually.
But the R30 pre-dates that whole scene!

You can’t afford to import a JDM car in the US and then not be able to treat it right. You pretty much aren’t allowed to import something with mechanical modifications without a severe headache so everything starts off at the high end. Plus, longer distance adds shipping costs.
This illegal Silvia I saw (not 25 years old) is about as trashy as it gets. I haven’t really seen a poorly modified imp orted car because they won’t be financially feasible until quite a few more years.

But I get you. Like the Mustang of Japan that people like to pretend is better than it is. Good car but awful owners who cheap out and crash their crap?

Ah I see. You can’t import with mods?! I can see people perhaps importing them with the intent to mod. Then the next owner or the one after ends up beating on it. A lot of mods are done badly, lowering the value of the car into a beater bracket.
But certainly your JDMs will be in a higher tier than ours. Yes, sort of like the Mustang. Many Skylines are just plain 6-cylinder sedans!

Basically, if a serial number on a mechanical part doesn’t match, they crush it or send it back. There are stories of people buying a car that had a different OEM factory option engine of the same model year put in it and they never realized it wasn’t original only to have their car destroyed once it arrived. It’s a stupid system invented by big automaker lobbyists to prevent people from realizing ROW cars are good.
I have seen one Skyline and it was an R32 sedan, probably rarer than the coupes by a significant margin. Maybe even 1:6 or something.

Haha! That’s truly awful. So many rules over there, really messes with the car world doesn’t it?
They probably are rarer only because nobody likes them. I knew a guy with an R34 sedan. I think he got mixed up in the hype and bought it, but said it was slow as can be.

Gotta do your homework. Most R33s in the country are still illegally imported because people have more hype and money than sense.
