So on a whim I decided to take the Stringbean out on a lovely 100* (Freedom Unit (37.78 Colonizer Units)). Well that A/C felt wonderful for about 5 minutes until I started getting hot air blown at me. The engine load is terrible when the A/C is on so I knew something was up. Fuses and relays checked, no CEL. Ok maybe my charge is low. Hooked up one of these jammers after letting it warm up

and we have normal pressure. Hmmmm. Decided to give it a little love since it was a bit low on the “fill” section. Mind you the whole time I’m troubleshooting it it’s blowing cold air. I did read that these low pressure transducers (low pressure switch) go bad. Here’s mine, coated in oil, dirt, schmoo and probably coolant.

I’m thinking I’ll give the electrical side of it a cleaning and if need be replace the sensor portion itself. Question is: in Chrysler’s magnificent knowledge make it a serviceable part without recovering the refrigerant? I’m not sure. This guy says yes and does it

Either way I cant do much at the moment since the header shield is plenty toasty at the moment.

I have know knowledge of current Chrysler but back in the ‘90's you could change a GM pressure switch without pulling charge. I believe they put a shraeder self closing valve underneath the switch.

In his video you can see the pin that opens the valve in the middle of the fiting.

haha, took my 1998 SAAB convertible on a long trip recently. SAAB Mech doing final check warned AC was leaking after first shop filled it. Didn’t have time to fix it before we left. I got pretty good with those A/C cans! Also turned out the low speed fan  resistor was dead which explained why it only worked on the highway. Bypassed that and it worked pretty good until I got it fixed properly.

Since I know the pressure is good I’m tempted to make a bypass either jumpering the two together or make a cool mode switch. Or I'll just replaced the sensor altogether.

Might work. One day when I was trying to get mine to work, I knew it was probably low but I was concerned the compressor wasn’t running. Then O remembered low pressure cutouts were a thing, shot some r134 in and presto it started running.

The other thing I learned, you ONLY get a roughly valid reading on the can if all of:

Compressor is running

Blower and radiator fan are running

Engine is reved slightly (debatable) (about 1500 on my SAAB)

All other conditions (ie radiator fan not working in my case) will result in false  high readings.
