Queensland, Australia 4 days ago. Some unlucky dude takes his F40 out for a spin before listing it for sale and ends up off-roading . The car hadn’t been driven for 5 years, and old tires are suspected as having been a factor. (and probably the owner forgetting how quickly the boost comes on in an F40?)
Extra kick in the nuts: t he driver was ticketed for not remaining in control of the vehicle.

1st: You will almost always get a ticket for “failure to control”, even if you don’t hit anything. I speak from experience on this matter.

How the hell do you remove an F-40 from your insurance?

Why would you? The expected return on insurance is well less than 1, so you are better off self-insuring paying out of pocket for risks you can afford. I’m guessing that most F40 owners can afford a lot of risk.

The car sat for five years, so I’d assume it was covered under the owner’s insurance for the home or building it was stored in.

#5 things I’ve learned today:
F40 does not make a good off-road vehicle.
I’m glad we cleared that up, I was about to take mine out and see if I could make it through that section.

I once had a conversation about this with a former co-worker who now professionally looks after a billionaires car collection. Everything should be insured and with cars in that range NOTHING gets written off. You could wad something up into a tiny ball and the insurance company would still pay to have it restored, even if the restored item shares like two parts with the original.

Ya know, with a decent amount of suspension lift and the right tires...

Let’s see how it can end up:
- Sold to some YouTuber to rebuild it “for pennies”
- Crushed into a cube, then sold to an art gallery or museum as “ art”
... or Oppo can start a crowdfund to buy it as a shared weekend car.

well it is on a trade plate there. so it appears the car would be unregistered, and no insurance would be attainable for an unregistered car.
