Rear U joint let loose, less than 100 ft from home. I live on a hill, so that necessitated a tow.
Un fucking real. Only needed to last maybe 50 more miles before I replaced it. At least I know it wasnt me, the torque specs on these are only typically like 20 ft lbs.
Damage report coming whenever. Need a break from thinking about this. Put a hole in my floor though.

Ooooh... that's not fun.

Nasty damage! Were you just passing by your home or how did the propeller shaft have so much speed to do the damage?

Damn, that sucks mate :(
I imagine a new piece of metal is going to need to be cut out and welded in to fix that one :(
Any idea if there is collateral damage to anything else? No brake lines or fuel lines or the like running nearby...?

Possibly to my (new) exhaust. Nothing else close to that. If so, IDGAF I think I bought the wrong exhaust anyways.

Going steeply uphill, goosed it to impress the girl ffriend . I think the strap holding the joint to the diff failled actually. 100 more ft/lbs of torque over factory can do that.

I hope the girlfriend took this mishap well. At least this didn’t leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere.
The factory u-joint straps are very flimsy looking. I have always wondered how they are holding together.

I think she took it well but you can never really tell. May just not want to upset me.

That’s insane, glad you weren’t hurt by flying metal bits. At least that bit of the trans tunnel will be covered by seats or carpet so the repair doesn’t have to look too amazing. Hopefully you can reuse the drive shaft

That’s good at least.....hopefully just the new driveshaft, bodywork fixed and good to go...

Yeah, the metal just split too. I can probably just pound it into shape, weld it up. I think I want to put a big plate over that spot to protect the passengers though.

I am not sure I want to at this point. Considering anything I have not personally fixed to be made out of glass.

Ugh been there. Upgraded my 76 cutlass to a 455. Didn’t have it running for 2 hours before I did the same. Goosed it in front of my buddies house where everyone was hanging out. I can still here the noise.
Good luck and hang in there.

Thanks. I feel much better today.

That’d be a good call for sure in case there is a risk of it happening again...

Ouch, while a bummer it shouldn’t be the worst to try and mend. At least it wasn’t the front joint -
when those go the whole driveshaft tends to punch up through the bo
ttom of the car if there’s no loop installed
to keep it off the ground
.
