I like to collect things, and since I don’t have the time or money or skill or knowledge to collect cars, I stick with something much simpler: mugs. A lot of them are Disney mugs because 1.) Disney is right next door (and currently a petri dish) and 2.) I have an annual pass so it’s a bit cheaper to buy from the mouse. That being said, they’re all different. Some of them are very old, some are sentimental, some I don’t even like but have because why not. Maybe I’ll do a “Mug of the Day” or “Mug of the Week” thing, that’d last for about a month/year respectively.
Regardless, I just inherited another mug from our good pal i86hotdogs with a design he commissioned and I executed. It’s funny, I’ve never seen a mug with a
design parallel to the handle, but hey, it’s still there and it’s still radical!
The DOTS comes in because I had to get the mug from my apartment complex’s mailbox. These are just some cool cars I spot anytime I leave the house, there are plenty more I didn’t capture on this one walk to the mailbox.
NOTE: I think I know what models these are, but please correct/ridicule me if I’m totally wrong.
First up to bat is my roommate’s 2014 Chevy Cruze. I wouldn’t have put this on here if it were just a regular Cruze, but this bad boy is a 2.0L diesel... and my room mate hates it. Every part for this car is just as uncommon, if not more uncommon than mine. The local Firestone that I go to to get my routine maintenance done (since, again, I don’t have the time or skill or resources or knowledge to do so... mock me all you want) won’t even change his oil, and the place he does get it done is forcing him to buy his own oil filter since they don’t carry it or know where to find it. Either that or they’re robbing him.
If anyone has any advice as to how my roommate could go about making his life easier with this car feel free to let me know and I’ll relay it to him.
This is my neighbors Acura CL (I believe) parked right next to my Acura TSX (I know).
By the way, apologies for the pictures being bad, I didn’t want anyone thinking I was suspicious or trying to steal their plates, so I basically took the picture without moving my phone around too much. Call me superstitious, mock me, I get it.
I’m actually not sure what this one is, but I know it’s not a Durango. It’s too big. The b adges on the back were taken off to show off more of the paintjob. It’s kind of hard to see, but this Dodge rocks a really nice, deep teal paint job, with a beige pinstripe thing along the side. Paired with the black rims it’s honestly not that terrible to look at, and the car itself is about as close you can get to a minivan without it looking like a minivan. It’s cool.
Her
e’s a slightly rusty RX8 with some sweet rims. This guy goes to my school, I remember seeing this car here and on campus (back when it was actually open). Regardless, it’s really low, but also pretty long. The Mini Cooper parked next to it makes for a half decent comparison.
Then I spotted two cars I hadn’t seen in my neighborhood before: a Ford Ranger with fat, mud tires and a neat light rack on the grille parked next to a BMW X1... they’re the two most opposite cars, beat up, big truck versus posh, contemporary SUV. There are more polar opposites out there, but I found this one to be particularly funny.
I would’ve kept going... but...
Florida rains are fast, swift, and unforgiving. Needless to say I got a bit wet.
I’ll definitely go on another walk like this in the future, there are some other awesome rides in my complex I want to show you, see if any of them tickle your fancy or are really cool, or if beauty lies only in the eye of the beholder.
By the way, big thanks to everyone showing their concern over my COVID ordeal. I actually found a testing center yesterday about 2 hours away backed by a reliable organization in a small, low population area. I went ahead and made the trip down interstate 4 and got tested. Crowds were at a minimum, everyone took it seriously but made sure to keep us relaxed, it was wonderful. So in 5 to 7 days I’ll find out if I’m dead or not.
Till then, stay frosty.

I also have way too many coffee mugs for a single-person household. I have a thing for diner mugs (thinner in the middle ones) , as I like to bring my coffee back to bed in the morning and they don’t t ip over as easily.

Ooh, yes. I have SO many mugs. There’s a few special ones I don’t drink out of (Pikes Peak, the “I’ve done it” Nürburgring mug, Clown Motel), but otherwise, uh, I’m also running into a lack of cabinet space. I think I may need to rearrange things again in there. I’m also sort of lazy with dishes, so it all sort of works out.
I’m sort of torn on making my Café Fahrtwind a display-only one. It’s a moto-centric café between our usual campsite and the ‘Ring and I, Large Child, always giggle at the name. Also, great cake? Great cake. I really don’t want to break the mug, but it makes me laugh every time I use it.

The best part of waking up is mugs... that’s it... just mugs...

I have some nifty vintage motorsport ones from the thrift store too but they might be in the drying rack.

Oh I love all those painted mugs, the ones stylized as if a brush stroked them, the owl one in particular is great. The cat doing a headstand on a ball is cool too... what’s that... the mug’s upside down... oh...
I need to see those vintage motorsport ones though. I have a shocking lack of car themed ceramics in my cabinet so yours may give me some inspiration.

Interesting but about the Cruze. My 1.8 takes a massive 15/16 head to get the plastic drum style filter housing out and I’m afraid it will strip one day. The filter is common enough. I wonder why GM didn’t use a standard filter across their small car engines?
Also, Dodge Journey. They aren't hideous but they are not very good on the inside or to drive. Basically the cheapest not-a-minivan 7 seater you could buy.

Yikes, I don’t want to picture that, though it makes total sense... eugh...

Well, I didn’t take a peek inside, all I saw was how nice it was on the outside all things considering. Thank you by the way for identifying that.

No problem. My neighbor bought one a year ago in that same color , immediately spilled muddy soil all over the interior, leaving massive muddy hand prints all over it. It took over half a year for that to get washed off. That should give you an idea how much of an appliance Journeys are.
Also, I know what you mean about low key DOTS photography . Sometimes you just don’t want to get weird looks so you sort of do a walk-by.

That’s so trippy and so adorable I love it! It looks like recycled material, you know, the foam made out of bits and bobs of things that is used for like yoga mats or put under floors. I like it though.
