Since  the Mustang II didnt kill the Mustang brand, that would have finished the job.

Frankly, I don’t mind it, but I prefer it as not a Mustang. It looks kind of Taunus to me.

Would have made a good Capri, which could have come to the US through Lincoln-Mercury. Though, Ford’s commitment to selling its European products in North America was always dependent on exchange rates.

It almost looks like Bertone designed it to be a less aggressive Fiat X1/9.

Interesting car, though it would have to be called something else... maybe using one of their showcar names.

I thi nk this could have been called the Ford Barchetta. Or the Brezza. Or the Flair.

Or the Ford Twister

After ranwhenparked’s reply I got to thinking a smaller cat than a Cougar  as a Mercury might have worked .

I don't know why, but it reminds me of the Chrysler LeBaron.

It would have finished the job if it replaced the Mustang II. If it sold alongside the Foxbody, similar to the Bronco and Bronco II, not so much.

It could basically be the fun to fling around (as early Fiestas were known to be) baby Mustang that could have used a tuned Fiesta engine, with a lesser tuned version of the SVO engine as a top of the line option.

Just make a few tweaks to make it look a little more like the Foxbody, and you could have had a big winner with it.
