This is the most detailed review I’ve seen yet of some of the human factors on the Tesla Model Y. Consumer Reports obviously tests lots of cars from everybody— and the Tesla Cult seem offended— but these guys do bring a unique perspective on “here’s a good example of this feature” and “here’s an odd implementation”. They clearly are not fans of integrating so many features into the Monster Big Screen— but I find their measured evaluation pretty interesting to walk through. Software design, screen functions, that sort of thing.

I think I’ve seen one, but it was entirely forgettable, it’s a slightly taller 3. In any case I would never buy a Tesla. There will be plenty of electric vehicles to choose from by the time I’m forced to buy one.

Surely you’ve seen many more than that. They’re *everywhere* south of the bridge.

I’ve been south of the bridge twice in three months. But I have considered the possibility that they are so boring and look so much like a 3 that I didn’t realize it. In Marin there are far more Model S than 3s driving slow and blocking me, I guess Prius people with cash upgraded. The E Tron Audis are multiplying quickly too. I saw a new BMW I don’t recognize the other day, let me see if I can figure that out... pause..... I think it was a 2 Active Tourer, it looks like a Fit.

Hard to tell from a TM3, both have the same goofy door handles. Usually my trick to distinguish the cars. "How did Tesla Eff Up the doors on this one?"

I think they are hard to tell apart. Funny that the Y build quality is so much worse

Interesting! It would have to have been a Mexican one because I don’t think the US or Canada ever got the 2 series Active Tourer. But who’s driving up from Mexico during Covid? You sure it wasn’t one of the new 2 series Gran Coupes aka the ugliest BMW ever?

I just listened to this during a long drive yesterday. It was an interesting critique as they generally really liked the vehicle. It was clear they were frustrated with some things Tesla does, particularly how they describe safety systems (and implement blind spot. Which I don’t know about. What a horrible implementation) and everything integrated into the screen. At the same time, they pose the question of what other EV really competes. I think they’re right, someone looking at a tesla or someone who’s had one already isn’t driving a Kona. Only going from a Model S to Taycan really makes sense.
It was a good listen from the CR crew.
