Usually, when I travel, I do my car rental shopping on Turo. Easy to work with, decent selection of vehicles (location dependent), d on’t have to deal with shady rental fleets and their hidden fees.
This trip won’t work with Turo this time. We are flying into Dallas to meet a friend, then commuting to boofoo Louisiana for a wedding, then finishing out trip in New Orleans to meet another friend and possibly attend a Saints football game (unlikely). So I’m looking for a place to rent in one location and drop the car off in another.
Something fun to drive, could be a convertible, nothing like an SUV or plain Jane sedan. It’s only the two of us and our bags, so we can go as small as a 2-seater if available.
The obvious results when I look around yield your basic selections : “Ford Mustang or similar”, “Dodge Charger or similar”. So if that’s all that is out there for the criteria, so be it. Reaching out if anyone else here has better insight in regards to this.
Gif for your time

Care to elaborate?

I’ll add that I get the reference, but do not understand the need to insult.

It is in no way meant as an insult, it’s merely that your gif is from the Bob and Doug McKenzie movie Strange Brew .

Ahhhh my apologies. I searched “flying van” in google and this came up. I read the saying and immediately took it as you telling me to “buzz off, you idiot”. My bad.

Hertz is my favorite company to rent from. They don’t nickel and dime you on fees or sweat a return inspection much. I rent from them a few times a year for work travel.
I usually grab a compact hatchback from there and they’ve never made me regret renting from them which definitely happens every time I rent from enterprise.
A fun vehicle might be more of a challenge but I think you can usually get a convertible mustang without too much trouble.

Their site has a “call to book” only option for those convertibles and such . I know Hertz has that Adrenaline collection, so I’ll have to call and inquire about that.

Oh yeah, no worries bud.
As for actually being helpful, Enterprise does offer “premium” rentals in some places, they might be more likely to have something two door and nice.

LA just made masks mandatory and the pandemic is worse than ever, so bad that even our fucking idiot president is wearing a mask today. Seems like a very stupid idea to have a wedding or travel. And we wonder why America is on a runaway viral path.

Hertz is/was a good choice for quirky premium vehicles, but it varies heavily based on location. I would definitely call and see what’s available, my rule of thumb is to try and rent something you would never buy, but would like to try. Forget the adrenaline collection, I’m a fan of the exotics: C ayanne, AMG, GT-R, Cayman, G550 etc... are all cars I’m never going to own, but to drive one for 24-48 hours...
as I said, availability pre-CoVid varied widely with location, so check out the details first before you go and don’t forget to post us a pic or two after!

SilverCar has A5 convertibles now and they are in Dallas. Don’t think it’ll set your hair on fire but at least it’s a safe bet?

Hertz used to be great for one ways, but they’ve started to charge a lot so I now use Avis. Both Hertz and Avis don’t dink you around, especially if you are #1 Club or Avis Preferred.

Yup, all of our visits are going to be brief and safe with said company. The wedding isnt until November, so hopefully things will be a little less hectic around then.

This trip isn’t until November, if it even happens. I’m going to plan that it does and follow safe practices.

I forgot they offered this. I am flying out of a different city, so this may not be an option unfortunately.

Yeah, Hertz is almost double what Avis is offering for a standard Mustang (similar) convertible.

Availability is scarce in my search. But I do agree an exotic would be sweet to drive for the weekend.

OkOk I just wrote a really long reply only to lose it when I went to look for the coupon site I used to get a good discount. CarRentalSaver is what it was called. It gives coupons for various rental car companies however what worked for me was B udget (avis). It dropped my monthly rental from $900+ down to $675 plus tax for a Kia optima.
Their own site gave a coupon that brought it down to $650 plus a $65 Amazon gift card but for a much smaller vehicle.
The month before I needed a truck so I rented a Ford Ranger. I started the reservation but it said it would be over $800 plus tax for the month and I didn’t want to spend that so I backed out. In 24 hours I got an email sta ting that if I complete the reservation they would drop the price to $608 tax included. I don’t think it will work every time but can’t hurt to try putting in a reservation and just before finalizing just exit out and wait and see. I didn’t even put in any personal info so how they got my email idk but hey it was a good offer none the less. Hope this helps

I actually just went to try to do it again just to check it.. This time everything was garbage deals. I did from Dallas to baton rouge just to see what it would be.. Said $900 a month but then the total was double that. Tried using their codes and Said they were invalid. Then I went and googled budget deals and found the 30% off coupon it came up like $1100 for the month with a line thru it and $900 below that as a sale price. Then I closed out the page and just went to budget.com and the same car for the same dates with no coupon was only $710 plus tax?? So... The regular price was cheaper than the “discount” price lol. They have good deals I promise. I’ve rented every month since Mar ch 1 of this year. A t first $194 a week then during lock down in ohio it got down as low as $74 including tax a week. It's gone up every month but the most I paid for a month was this last $675 plus tax was $751. Just got to try to work with the site a little.

I’ll work with it and see what I yield. Cheapest I found was a convertible mustang from Avis for about $600 for the trip. That’s near the upper limit of what I’d spent for a rental.
