The last time I cut a check to Hot Rod Magazine, I paid something like $27 for a three year subscription. That was before I had kids. My daughter is 7-1/2 now. The magazine has shown up every month since. Now they want to auto-renew me for $80 for a three year subscription.

I used to have so many magazine subscriptions, I still miss car craft but Grassroots Motorsports is the only one out there now that’s worth my dollars.

My company got burned recently on an auto-renewal data subscription that required 3 MONTHS notice prior to end of term. That’s just set up to try to screw customers.

Ugh!

I had a similar issue at my school when I took over at it. My predecessor had apparently contracted with a service to clean the overhead air cleaner every year for ... Ever. It took me a couple years to figure out where that $300 was disappearing to every year.

Hot Rod has really gone downhill since they killed off everything else. Now they’re trying really hard to be Car Craft, Muscle Car Digest, Street Rodder and all the rest, at the same time they’re cutting it back to pamphlet length. When my Car Craft sub expired, they offered a special deal on some digital BS “replacement” so I just wrote it off.

I miss what Hot Rod used to be, but won’t miss it when my sub runs out. Sad.
