Some blokes came by to look at my boat today. Told them no to $2000. That’ s nearly a 1/3rd off my asking. They walked. I still wonder if I should have just sold it. Thing is...I don’t want to for $2000. Hell I want $3000. I guess I should list it for $4000 and grudgingly accept $3 000.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
NEW! They just countered for $2300. probably going to say no, though it sounds like they really want it. Thoughts?

If you are getting 80% of asking on KSL you either started too low or you should take it.

Say 25, or stick to your guns. Your choice. Have you had other people interested at all, or radio silence?

You list a thing for $ 2800 I think there is an unspoken 10-15% lower offer depending on how much you want to get rid of it. So in that regard 2400-2500 would not be a total low ball offer. I mean if you have not used it in a few years and it’s taken up space just sell it. If you want tell them that if it has not sold in the next 5 days it’s theirs for 2300.

25 was my offer when they walked. No one else interested. I got to interested parties...turns out they were brothers. It’ s only been up a few weeks.

If your ask is $2800, I’d say $2k is within a reasonable offer, that’s 29% under asking. $2300 for a $2800 ask seems pretty solid assuming it’s accurately described and there’s nothing hidden.

Thats not a bad idea.

Then I'd let it be, and wait for 3

Counter at $2500. That’s over 10% off the asking price, which is the implicit “everybody wants a deal” number.
“My bottom line is $2500. I told the wife that’s the least I’ll take. I’m here to help you load it if you want it.”

I think I started too low. The others I see listed for around 3500

oh its all laid out bare. I listed it kinda low...truth is I don’ t want to sell it and I don’t want to keep it.

25 was the offer I gave them. I don’t think I want to go any lower. I guess that’ s my answer.

Yeah, after looking at it for that long you never want to feel like you gave it away...
I always figure the philosophy is that everybody wants to feel like they “got a better deal”... but coming in 30+% off the ASK number is excessive.
Sounds like they want it, so I guess you’ll find out. Good luck. It looks to be in great shape... and a lot of fun.

Raise the price and re-list it. That will help keep it in the driveway or it will sell in 2 days.

Offering $ 2,000 for something listed at $ 2,800 is reasonable and what I would’ve probably offered as starting point for negotiation. I imagine they were expecting you to counter offer and you all land at something like $2, 500 or $2,400.

I countered at $2500. Thats about as low as I want to go.

15 years ago I paid nearly $2k for a boat in far worse shape than yours. Yours is interesting, runs (with a couple issues) and under $3k. If I wanted another small boat I’d buy yours in a heartbeat and think it’s priced well.
Sold my runabout 2 years ago though and am enjoying not owning a powerboat and kayak more now though.
With how crazy everything is now I don’t know if your pricing will sell it this year or not. Some things are going crazy high, other crazy low and there doesn’t seem to be much a rhyme or reason for it. You might be better off selling it next year when things are a bit more normal (hopefully).
You might try a couple boating forums since it’s an unusual boat to see if anyone wants it, but I also know you don’t really want to sell it either...

That’s a reasonable counter.

I’d say $3500 and if they haggle tell them $3k is the floor. I bought my truck for $7k, he wanted $7500 and then I said I have to ship it so how about an even 7. Then they feel like they got something taken off.

I’m not sure I agree with everything in this video but the moral of the story on negotiations is empathy, for both sides.

Do you know someone who does? Keep it around, so to speak, if not exactly yours? Know it goes to a good home?

One time I listed an R6 for $3600 expecting to get $3000 and this guy comes and kicks the tires then says “Well I have $1900 in the bank right now,
” and I said,
“Then you should not be buying a motorcycle.”
Then somebody else came and bought it for $3300.

I’d say counter at 24 and be done. Seller’s remorse over $100 will quickly recede. That’s my $0.02.

U pdate the ad to say “$2800. Pretty firm on price but first to show with $2500 takes it. I will not go lower than that, I’d ra ther keep it. Please don’t waste your time or mine.”

As a seller:
Threshold = (.75) x Asking price, because you can always count on people knocking off at least 25 percent. Therefore:
2500 = .75 x Asking price
Your asking price should be 3333.333333333333

I’m the biggest pain in the ass negotiator. When it was time to get rid of my old SVT Focus I wanted it gone and said $1100 firm (Needed a brake line patched up) . One guy came and was at like $900. I was like you wouldn’t make this trip if you didn’t bring $1100. “You’re gonna walk away from $950 cash right now?” “Yup.” He paid $1100.

truth is I don’t want to sell it and I don’t want to keep it.
